Some connections are worth picking up right where you left off.

It was lovely spending a little time catching up with Ashley Russo, owner of Turnstone Creative, at a recent networking event.
In the middle of busy schedules and new introductions, there’s something special about taking a moment to reconnect.
Ashley, it was wonderful catching up with you. @ashleysrusso @turnstonecreative

There are stories we tell all the time…and then there are stories we only pull out every few years. ❤️

This week at Storytelling That Sticks with the Women’s Business Council of the Lehigh Valley Chamber, we talked about what actually makes people remember a story.

Not the perfect words.
Not the polished marketing language.
Not trying to sound like everyone else.

It’s the human stuff.

The pivotal moments. The tension. The details. The lessons. And sometimes, the willingness to share a piece of yourself that people haven’t heard before.

I even shared a very personal and memorable story that I’ve only told publicly once, years ago. I probably won’t be pulling that one out again anytime soon! 😅 But in that room, for that conversation, it felt right.

And of course, I had to bring a little Dolly Parton wisdom with me:

✨ “Find out who you are and do it on purpose.”

And this one really fits so many of our stories:

✨ “If you don’t like the road you’re walking, start paving another one.”

Because isn’t that what so many of our best stories are about? A moment when something changed, something didn’t go as planned, or we decided it was time to take a different road.

We talked about finding the part of the story that makes someone stop scrolling, showing your values instead of simply telling people what they are, using AI without losing your voice, knowing the difference between being personal and being private, and remembering that your audience needs to see themselves somewhere in the story too.

Because whether you’re telling your story on LinkedIn, standing on a stage, sending an email, or talking to someone across a table, people may forget the perfect wording.

But they remember how the story made them feel.

Thank you to everyone who came out, participated, laughed with us, and trusted us with your own stories. And thank you to the Women’s Business Council and Lehigh Valley Chamber for creating the space for conversations like this.

Now I’m curious: What is a story from your life or career that you don’t tell often…but you’ll never forget?

Don’t believe everything you see online, sometimes we’re all just trying to keep it together with a giant stye on our eye.
Disclaimer: I am fine. It’s just a stye. And yes, I did just notice it 😂
