Thank you to everyone who joined us last Friday for the Baton Rouge reception of Picture the Power Vol. II: COUNTED presented by @powercoej

A special thank you to our artists, community partners, and everyone who continues to believe in the power of art to tell our stories and keep us connected. 🫶🏾

Haven’t made it to the gallery yet? There’s still time to get counted! 👀 You can experience Picture the Power Vol. II: COUNTED at the Cary Saurage Community Arts Center through December 4.

Come spend some time with these powerful images, sit with the stories they tell, and leave with a little something to carry into your community.

The photographs may hang on the walls, but the conversations don’t stop here. 💫

📸 @ingridnacolephotography thank you for beautifully capturing this journey for us 💐

Slide on through to get a recap of Picture the Power Vol II: COUNTED launch presented by @powercoej Arts Framework

Baton Rouge, y’all really showed OUT! 🥹📸🖤

We kicked off COUNTED with good people and vibes, impactful photographs, big conversations, and plenty of reminders about why our voices matter.

A big ol’ THANK YOU to everyone who came through, supported the artists, shared a story, asked a question, or simply spent some time with us. Y’all helped us start this journey off right!

But this was just the start… we packed the bags and we’re hitting the road! 🚗💨

Next stop: Lake Charles! 🚤

We’re bringing the photographs, the stories, and the conversation about what happens after we vote. Because voting isn’t just about what happens on Election Day—it’s about staying connected, paying attention, asking questions, and knowing how the decisions being made affect our communities.

So grab your people, come see the work, and let’s talk about what it means to be COUNTED. 🗳️📸

“Counted” is an exhibition curated by @powercoej & @moments.bymaya, that explores what happens after we vote…the real-world spaces shaped by community care, advocacy, and civic action.

My featured work was captured during Juneteenth, and focuses on the positive impact of civic engagement in pure, collective, Black joy.

Come see the work in person!

Local rapper BBE AJ took time off from recovering to support Villa del Rey Creative Science and Arts Magnet School students as they prepare for the LEAP Test. BBE Aj rocked the stage at @225fest 2024 and we continue to pray for his speedy recovery.

BBE AJ ended his surprise performance encouraging students by saying “I want ya’ll rock and roll that LEAP like ya’ll rock & roll my song”. The rapper was met by excited screams of the students who spent the pep rally reviewing important test taking tips.
