💥 Summit #9 of Mount Whitney aka Tumanguya Recap🏔️

A truly special one : Fourteen of us came together, tribe, longtime friends, new friends, and fellow lovers of the outdoors, to camp beneath the stars 🌌 and share an unforgettable journey up Whitney.

Congratulations to everyone who summited, especially our first timers. Watching your dreams become reality brought me so much joy.

Huge thank you to @thevonn3only 🤘🏻for helping organize this adventure, and to everyone for showing up with kindness and looking out for one another.

A special thank you to @daneypr_ ❤️‍🔥, who quite literally helped save my life after I developed High Altitude Pulmonary Edema (HAPE). More on that experience and Whitney safety soon. ⛑️🙏🏼

So grateful for this mountain, this community, and every memory we created together.

Here’s to many more summits and continuing to thrive together, tribe. ❤️‍🔥

Mount Whitney 2026 Recap 🏔️

Over the past few months, 15 incredible community members committed to a goal. They trained on their own, joined our free hikes and workshops, prepared responsibly, secured permits, and supported one another every step of the way.

Together, 14 backpacked into the Inyo National Forest for a three-day expedition, and 12 successfully summited Mount Whitney.

To those who summited, congratulations! And to those who turned around, we’re just as proud of you. The mountain will always be there. One of the greatest outdoor skills is knowing when to listen to your body and make the safe call.

🚨 Always remember: there are two summits, the mountain summit and making it safely back to the trailhead. Both are equally important.

⛑️ In the coming days, we’ll also be sharing an educational post about Acute Mountain Sickness (AMS) and other altitude-related illnesses to help spread awareness that high-altitude illness can affect anyone, regardless of experience or fitness.

Here’s to growth, resilience, safe adventures, and many more mountains together.

Keep exploring. Keep thriving. 🌎

11:00 PM start. No rush, no pressure, just the mountains, good company, and the kind of night that reminds you why you keep coming back.

David and I took our time under the fading full moon, watching its light spill across the ridgelines as if the mountains were glowing in silence. No need to push, no need to race. Just steady steps through the dark, one quick stop, and hours of conversation between footsteps.

Etiwanda Peak felt like pure magic. A quick snack later, we pushed toward Cucamonga Peak to celebrate a hiking group’s 4 year anniversary, catch up with familiar faces, and soak in a sunrise that made the long night worth every mile.

We ran sections of the descent, laughed the whole way down, and made it back to the car tired, grateful, and safe.

13.8 miles. 4,728 ft of gain.
But nights like this are always about more than the numbers.

What an amazing night in the mountains. 🌙⛰️

What the night carried away,
the mountains returned as peace. ✨

2025 felt like two years stacked into one. It began with fire 🙏🏼 literal and symbolic. The LA fires were tragic and devastating, but they also taught me what resilience looks like when communities refuse to let each other fall. Watching neighbors, strangers, and friends show up for those in need reminded me that we’re not meant to do life alone.

And just as the smoke cleared outside, another fire sparked in my personal life. A slow, emotional burn that tested every part of me - my patience, my mental health, my hope, my sense of justice, relearning trust. It was a year that asked me to endure, to face heartbreak, to fight for what I love, and to keep moving no matter how exhausted I felt.

From destruction, beauty still found a way. There is beauty in trying. Beauty in enduring. Beauty in choosing to Die Slow (live slowly and fully instead of giving up). Beauty in experiencing what life gives us : the good, the painful, the absurd, the transformative and letting it shape us instead of break us.

I didn’t do any of this alone. I owe everything to my closest friends, my loved ones (all of them), new friends, my community, my tribe, my therapist, Mother Nature, the ancestors of this land, and my own ancestors + the universe guiding me when I felt lost. Thank you for witnessing me, supporting me, and reminding me who I am when I forgot.

2025 tested me. But somehow, through it all, I found deeper clarity, new strength, and a softer heart.

Cheers to 2025 and to 2026, which is already off to a great start. I’m still walking through one of those fires, but I’m doing it with a whole new perspective, and that makes all the difference.

🥾🌄 Yesterday was an unforgettable adventure in the Santa Monica Mountains ❤️‍🔥 We had 35 amazing individuals come together for a beautiful group hike through the Backbone Trail to Sandstone Peak And Mishe Mokwa Trail Loop on Ventureno Chumash Land🚶‍♀️🏞️ Despite the hot evening and dry conditions, we all made it to the top and back down safely, creating incredible memories along the way. 🥾🏞️🌞

We didn't just hike; we celebrated community, the #ATribeCalledEarth, and the life of a close friend to the org and many other community members. 🌿💕 This hike was more than just an outdoor experience; it was a journey of love and connection, cherishing the bond we share as a group. 🤝🌳

Most of our attendees were first-time hikers with We Explore Earth and at Sandstone Peak in general. A special shoutout to all the newcomers - your energy and enthusiasm made the experience even more special! We hope you'll join us for future hikes. 🌟🌿

A big thank you to everyone who joined us yesterday! Your presence made this hike truly remarkable, and we can't wait to see you again on our next adventure. Keep an eye on our upcoming events - more exciting experiences await! 🎉🌳
