Please try and bear with me and stop getting unnecessarily upset with me.

Don't ignore me when I try to call back days after or reply to your messages eons after.

I try the best I can with my hands full. The truth is that I've come to realise that I need at least 48 hours a day to function properly.

Rather than put me down, try and figure out how the above can happen for me.

Instead of buying your children all you didn't have as child, teach them all you didn't know. Ashley C @Ashley Fit.

A big mistake parents make. A lot of us try to live vicariously through our children, unconsciously.

A lot of parents work their behinds off( do excuse my French please) buying everything material thing in sight because they had a childhood where they were denied of those things because their parents couldn't afford it. In the process, they become absentee parents and fail to provide the most needed things that no amount of money can ever buy: love, care and guidance.

Priorities are misplaced!

Another thing which is very peculiar to the African or should I say Nigerian culture in particular, is complete westernization. Don't get me wrong, there's nothing bad about that. It only becomes bad when we lose total focus of our values.

A good example is our children been unable to speak in their mother tongues. For some reason, its a big bother to and for me. I believe firmly that children should be encouraged to speak and be spoken to solely in their mother tongue in their formative years and whenever home. They will always pick up English in school.

I've seen parents pay through their noses to have their children learn Mandarin, French, Spanish e.t.c. but find it ridiculous to pay pennies to have the same children learn their mother tongue. Even though my 2 P's understand Yoruba (my mother tongue) totally, I can't wait for them to speak it flawlessly. I'll be the proudest mum I tell you.

This idea of going totally Western is eroding the values we have as a people. The other day, Pinre saw a friend(she was barely 2 years old then), she knelt to greet her and the next thing I hear is "ha! Funmi! This is child abuse!"

I was stunned to say the least. Child abuse? Ki lo wa lori menu, ki le serve aunty? Such ridiculous statements are a bother!

Let's go back to the basics and cut all this crap!

Does your child speak in his mother tongue? How did you achieve it?
What's your own experience? Let's talk 😀

Everything that is real, great, was first imagined. Let them run with their imagination.

This picture was taken early last year just before the lockdown.

FLIGHT SQUADRON PINOLA (PART 1).

My little madams came up to me and said" mummy, let's do snap chat" before they could chat, my neck snapped! Snap chat ke? Egbami! 2 and 3 year olds? Even I their mum had only heard about it and didn't have the app not to talk of knowing how to use it.

My first reaction was to shout and ask them how they got to know about the app, grab them and hide them under my skirt for life so that they don't get corrupted by all the evils in the world but then like I've learnt to do, I took a deep breath and told them to take a seat and teach me.

An argument then erupted, "I want to be a pilot", "I said it first", "no, I did" of course not in correct grammar but in their own created English tenses. So I told them that no plane is ever flown by one pilot but at least two pilots. So, you can both be pilots and that's how the onset of a migraine for me was averted, thank God, and we ended up with two pilots

After all the paparazzi, I now asked them if they really want to be pilots and what pilots do. The response was very clear and concise : yes, they want to be pilots and pilots are the ones that "drive" the planes to London.

Rather than correct them that planes are not driven but rather flown, my typical Naija mum's mind went into a dialogue with God. Olohun o, pilot ke? My children? Why can't they want safe professions that will keep their feet planted on the ground rather that flying and keeping my own heart flying also anytime they're in the air. God, I don't want my children to be pilots, or police or military personnel, just give them "safe" jobs that will give them plenty money and out of harm's wayk

TO BE IN YOUR CHILDRENS MEMORIES TOMORROW, YOU HAVE TO BE IN THEIR LIVES TODAY. - BARBARA JOHNSON.

Parenting is not easy especially if you want to give your children the best of everything. Things are so expensive, so out of reach that to give your children the basic essentials requires both parents working and that's not talking about the luxuries, just the basics.

As a result, most parents are away from their children most of the day and if care is not taken, they become strangers to these children.

Weekends are spent either socializing, pursuing a side hustle to provide that little extra for the family or resting if there's room.

That is minus the 24 hours you still need to go through your child's scheme of work for the week, home work corrections, grooming them for the new week and the list is endless. Did I hear you say house chores and cleaning? Even with the house keeper/ nanny/ help, there are details you need to look into yourself

So, how do you create the memories for tomorrow? Tough call.

One thing I have learnt to do, is to involve them in as many of my activities as I can. For instance, I am just starting commercial baking as a way of making income work. So, what I did was to get them their own aprons, whisks and little baking tools so that we bake together ( more like I bake and they make a mess). This also works 2 ways for me: we get to hang out together, talk, yes TALK,monkey around, have fun and they are also learning a skill that may come in handy in the near future. Cleaning up is another headache on its own but well worth it.
1. I get to spend quality time with them.

2. They learn their numbers and sums as I make them weigh and count with me

3. I catch up on what's happening with or to them both at home and school.

4. We create memories that will make us smile tomorrow.

How do you create your memories? Let's talk and share life's recipes.

"Children learn more from who you are than what you teach them" - W.E.B. DuBon.

So, about 2 year ago when Pinre was about 2 and a half, I noticed she had picked up the bad habit of biting on her nails and I kept warning her to stop.

On a few occasions, I would flick either her lips or her finger and ask her "is it food?" She would either pout or cry and then stop.

Fast forward to one day when I noticed a loose cuticle on my finger and thought to quickly nip at it with my teeth. I didn't know my little madam was watching me. Before I could say "Jack" little madam had flicked my lips and I heard "mummy, is it food?" (SMH).

Lesson: watch what you say or do around children who are close to you, not necessarily your biological children, they pick up fast.

How's your day going?
