1. Came in expecting a sharp takedown of the absolute joy that is working retail. Came out thinking that was a trippy, unhinged nightmare and—when you really think about it—a terrifyingly accurate snapshot for anyone who has ever survived a never ending stocktake 2. Just when you think there are absolutely no more curveballs left in the inventory, playwright Jess Zlotnick unloads an entire pallet of wild narrative twists on the audience. 3. Evil corporate satire meets ghost train, haunted house Buffy the Vampire Slayer vibes. Yes I wrote that and somehow it totally worked, leaving it funny, freaky, and really making you wonder if retail actually costs you your soul. Retail frustrations take an absurd turn in Stocktake, where endless piles of clothing, demanding customers and workplace grievances blend comedy with horror. As the absurdity escalates into horror and gore, the audience visibly recoils, accompanied by gleeful laughter. With energetic physicality, eerie darkness and immersive sound, the production explores a system that pits people against each other to survive.
