Day 6: My entire aura changed when I stopped chasing the baddie aesthetic and started creating my OWN aesthetic. I look back at my old videos and don’t even recognize that girl. My confidence grew so much from being more authentic.

It took me 9 years of being natural to realize this. And I
am so RICH because of it! I used to envy wash n go girls because my 4c hair could never just get wet and take the perfect curl shape. I was always so frustrated with how much longer it took to style my hair into the perfect curl pattern. There’s something cool about allowing your hair to take its natural shape. Boy was I delulu. 😭 I don’t even have naturally black hair, yet here I was wearing a jet black lace wig to fit into a mold that was “popular” at the time. Nothing wrong with a protective style. However, I do believe there are many of us who are wearing lace wigs because we’re trying to fit a certain standard of beauty. And that’s the problem I’m trying to highlight here. Thoughts?

Y’all I could cry when I scroll back to old photos. I didn’t realize how good I had it at the time! Between wearing braids with no maintenance, not properly hydrating my hair, and skipping trims left and right this is the result of years of neglect. Brittle, dry broken ends and damage that has traveled up the hair shaft. I also think some deficiencies might be at play here as well because of all the volume loss. But I’m on a mission to repair my hair and do it the right way this time. Would love to get some hair recommendations. Love me a kinky, nappy, free-flowing fro. I wouldn’t trade this texture for the world. 🥹🪮

My fave products at the moment are @auntjackiescurlsandcoils. I have low porosity hair so my strands have a hard time retaining moisture. Their products genuinely provide me the most moisture and my hair loves it plus they’re hella affordable. On this journey I’ve learned that keeping the hair hydrated is the best way to retain length.

Day 7: When I started wearing lace fronts, I swear I have never felt so much anxiety when stepping out. Lace lifting, wig shifting, I do NOT miss those days. 😩😭 I remember keeping a stash of glue in both my car and my purse in case I needed to reapply while on a date or out clubbing. It was embarrassing. Wigs require just as much upkeep as natural hair, if not more.

From bald caps, to melting lace, to lace tinting, it’s a never ending cycle to keep up with. And I give up!! I’m all for giving your natural hair a break with wearing a natural style wig or braids, but moving forward I prefer to choose hair that can more seamlessly blend with my natural hair.
