POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED
2024 was a difficult year for me. It was also my least creative. I struggled through the aftermath of losing a family member, relocating logistics and finding a house in a new city.

BUT…

This year I met some of the most amazing creatives who inspired me, supported me and gave me the best hugs, smiles and conversation. I also got to see some dear creative friends I haven’t seen in the longest time.

As I reflect on this year, these are the people who made the biggest difference in my life, creatively speaking, so here is an appreciation post to round out the year.

🫶🏻✨

@bealubas — I cannot imagine my life without you. Thank you for supporting me through difficult times this year without judgement and for all your wonderful hospitality.

@craft_and_muse — your big, big hugs and endless supportive words have helped me so much. Thanks for enduring the long commutes to be with me when I needed a creative friend.

@pageandplatestudio — what a gift it was to meet you and have you in my life. I’ll forever call you my MVP. Thank you for showing me the best time in Florence this summer.

@tastemakerconference — a highlight of my year was being with you all in Italy. It was the most incredible bunch of creatives I’ve met. I miss you all dearly.

@shuttershelly — it was amazing to see you in London. I always love spending time with you. Thanks for hosting me at your home and showing us around town.

@ashleighscottcreative @tiffanysfoodphotography @whiskfullyso — our shoots together this year have been so good for my creative soul. Thank you ladies for the love and support.

My first submission into the #GetColorfulChallenge is a shot from my recent trifle series.

I used complementary colours of an orangey-yellow paired with a toned-down blue. Making the photo warm through editing, desaturating the blue and adding a touch of coolness via colour grading to ensure the photo still felt crisp!

I mean...there are so many juicy and delicious layers in this photo to look at, but sticking to two colours in a *fool-proof* colour theory only strengths the overall feeling.

💙 💛

Did you notice there are two spoons in this shot? Who's up for sharing! 😋 🥄

PS - shout out to my bestie @katcluff for hauling tins of passionfruit from Oz so I could finally play with some ingredients I've been missing.

Even after a decade of photographing, I am always amazed by how a simple act like changing backgrounds can revolutionise a colour story 😱

QUICK TIP: take a few extra minutes to swap and use different coloured backgrounds to see how this alters your colour story.

This month I am celebrating 10 years of Two Loves Studio - whaaa?

I tell you, I can hardly believe it. As someone who failed high school English class, the mere fact I’ve kept a blog for 10 years still seems crazy to me.

Here's what I have planned for this month:

💎 3 x WORLDWIDE GIVEAWAYS totalling $1,000 in resources crucial to food photography.

🚨 FREE artificial lighting training with my go-top setup.

⚡️ Site-wide celebration SALE which I've NEVER done before. Courses and bundles will be discounted.

💛 A Youtube video (or two) talking about my journey (if it feels appropriate to share given the current world conflict).

This celebration isn't about me, however. In fact, Two Loves Studio was never about me. I added the ‘Studio’ to the end of the name because I wanted it to be a community. I wanted it to be FOR US.

You see, when I first picked up a camera, there weren’t many resources on our niche. I wanted to change that. Many minds make great photography and after being in this space for ten years now, I can see how much our community has uplifted and supported each other.

To say THANK YOU for being a part of the Two Loves Studio community, I wanted to celebrate this milestone with you by offering up ways to help you and the community with the skills it takes to be a food photographer, over the long haul. Looking back, I’m often reminded just how much there is to know and learn in food photography.

Make sure to jump on my email list or keep an eye out in my IG stories (we all know IG ain't showing us much in the feed these days)...

How to Use Minimalist Composition For Impact 👊🏻 👊🏻 👊🏻⠀
⚡⠀
My interview with Jena Carlin today from @littlerustedladle goes LIVE TODAY as part of the Mastering The Art of Food Photography Summit. I hope to see you there.⠀
⠀
The biggest takeaway from the session today is how to define and use minimalist composition for YOUR STYLE.⠀
⠀
Minimalism isn't about limiting yourself to one subject, or styling with one prop. It's about creating WITHOUT EXCESS, and the best part is you get to define what that truly is for you...⠀
⠀
This week I'll be sharing a WATERMELON series I've been working. There's just no better subject to celebrate summer.⠀

ROYAL HAWAIIAN #BeLightInspiredDrinks DAY 3 ✨⠀
⠀
Today, I wanted to showcase how LIGHT MAKES COLOUR even more magical.⠀
⠀
This @empress1908gin is just the most magical purple colour. But that's not all! When you add citrus, it TURNS PINK 💜💗. Mesmerising or what????⠀
⠀
This gorgeous pink layer happens naturally when you pour the gin over the top. 👉🏻 SWIPE TO SEE mixing in action.⠀
⠀
It's also made right here in BC!⠀
⠀
⠀
Ingredients: ⠀
1 1/2 oz (45 ml) @empress1908gin ⠀
1 oz (30ml) unsweetened pineapple juice⠀
1/2 oz (15ml) lemon juice⠀
1/2 oz (15ml) simple syrup⠀
⠀
⠀
Directions:⠀
Combine all ingredients EXCEPT the gin into a cocktail shaker with ice. Shake to combine. Strain into a tall glass full of crushed ice. Carefully layer the gin on top. Watch the magic unfold.⠀

NEW YORK SOUR #BeLightInspiredDrinks DAY 1 ✨

My new favourite drink 🥃💃🏼. It tastes just as heavenly as the layers look.

In a recipe I found by @cookieandkate, she adds maple syrup instead of simple syrup - love!

Ingredients:
1 1/2 oz (45 ml) whiskey
1 oz (30ml) lemon juice
1/2 oz syrup (simple syrup or maple syrup)
1/2 oz red wine
Luxardo maraschino cherry

Directions:
Combine whiskey, lemon juice, syrup into a cocktail shaker with ice. Shake to combine. Strain over ice. Carefully pour in red wine over the back of a spoon to create the top layer. Garnish with a Luxardo maraschino cherry (or two!).
