[PART 1 OF 2] UPSET at Chatham. The Cougars entered as 1.6-goal underdogs and still knocked off Randolph 2-1, a result that counts in the NJAC American race. Chatham climbs five spots in the rankings while the Rams tumble seven. In Essex County Tournament quarterfinal action, Montclair Kimberley edged Glen Ridge 1-0 behind CJ Williams' goal and a CJ Dike assist, and Seton Hall Prep held off Columbia 2-1. Elsewhere, Ramsey rolled 5-2 at River Dell, Braeden Daley posting a goal and two assists to fuel a 13-spot ranking surge. Every morning we recompute our NJSIAA rankings from the latest results. The green up / red down arrows on each card show how many spots a team moved compared with the previous morning's rankings. Pingry sits atop the board at 6.8 AdjEM, but the top is packed: just 0.5 separates Big Blue from Bergen Catholic at #2, and only 1.0 down to Ramsey at #3. The Rams made the loudest jump inside the top group, climbing 45 spots from #48 after a 5-0 start capped by a 3-0 shutout of Pascack Hills. The top 10 has an Essex County flavor — 4 of the top 10 call it home, including West Orange, Seton Hall Prep, St. Benedict's, and Columbia, the last of which surged 59 spots to #8. Elsewhere, Demarest posted the board's biggest rise, up 83 to #48, while Freehold Township tumbled 46 to #59 despite a 6-1 mark. Record doesn't match the rank? Only NJ-vs-NJ results feed the model. A game against an out-of-state school counts in the record but can't move the rating — there's no web of NJ results to measure that opponent against, so we don't guess. Early in the season every team also starts from its final AdjEM last year, standing in as 5 prior games that drop out one for one as real NJ results come in. A team with no NJ games yet sits exactly where it finished last season. What's AdjEM? Adjusted Efficiency Margin is our power-rating model. We measure each team's per-game goal margin, adjust it for the strength of every opponent they've faced, and iterate until every team's rating reflects the full web of NJ matchups. Our soccer model: • Per-game goal margin • Home advantage: 0.5 goals • Margin cap: 3 goals/game, with diminishing returns above • NJ vs NJ games only — out-of-state games don't count toward ratings • Ratings recomputed every morning; this board posts every Sunday Top 60 teams across 10 slides — full board at njrecordbook.com/boys-soccer/rankings.php
