I’m now 1/3 of the way to getting my Master’s Degree in Choral Conducting!

I learned a ton of new things at Texas State this summer from Dr. Martin, Dr. Linschoten, and conductor/composer Dr. Craig Hella Johnson (who runs @conspirareatx), and I’m so excited to bring it back to the Bowie Choirs!

It’s going to be a great year! Let’s get to work!

I cannot thank TCDA 2026 enough! Conducting at this convention will forever be a career highlight. Meeting all of these wonderful conductors, representing the amazing music program of Texas State, and getting to share my passion for choral music this weekend has been the most rewarding experience. Thank you to everyone who helped me get here and I will continue to learn everyday and make music.

to describe this semester… this year even… would be nearly impossible without talking about the nights nobody saw. the kind where anxiety sits heavy on your chest, where stress follows you everywhere you go, where you smile in public but feel yourself falling apart in private. there were moments i genuinely didn’t know how i was going to make it through. moments where grief showed up uninvited. moments where heartbreak changed me. moments where loss made the world feel quieter than it used to.

and somehow, through all of it, life kept moving.

there were friendships that shifted, people who became strangers, doors that closed without warning, and prayers i thought went unanswered. there were days i felt completely exhausted mentally, emotionally, spiritually. but looking back now, i can see that God was still present in every single moment, even the ones that felt empty. even the ones i questioned.

God has a mysterious way of working, because if it had not been… imma leave that right there.

but maybe some things had to fall apart so i could finally see what was truly meant for me. maybe some pain was necessary to push growth out of me. maybe survival itself became the testimony.

this year humbled me, broke me down, rebuilt me, and taught me that strength doesn’t always look loud. sometimes strength is simply waking up and trying again. sometimes it’s continuing to love people after being hurt. sometimes it’s finding faith again after almost losing it.

so if i’ve seemed distant, tired, different, quieter… just know i’ve been learning how to carry things i never thought i’d have to carry.

and despite everything, i’m still here. still growing. still becoming. and for that alone, i thank God.
