Two weeks ago I had the pleasure of being invited to participate in a beach clean by National Geographic Explorer @forbah_sandra_n and founder of @bridgesforoceans , an non-profit organisation dedicated to empowering youth and in ocean science and conservation.

The event took place at Batoke Beach in Limbe, involving a team of volunteers and local residents. The event was a huge success in reducing plastic waste, community engagement and encourage conservation efforts. In a country where the development of adequate and efficient waste management systems are still in development, small contributions to address localised pollution serve an important role. We managed to remove an estimated ~70kg of plastic waste, a great success for a few hours of work.

Real change can only happen at the source of the problem, and rigid legislation needs to be put in place to reduce waste reaching our rivers, beaches and oceans. It is my hope that through continued efforts, government bodies would be inspired to make a real step towards solving our waste problem.

We continue to be stewards for our oceans. Thanks to @see_turtles we were able to celebrate this year’s #WorldOceansDay through a cleanup, with a twist 😄😄. A painting for advocacy exercise where young people who have been taking BRIDGES’ ocean splash course painted the view of the beach during this event. We also engaged some young persons from the Dockyard community who face a severe waste management challenge. A very big thanks you to @see_turtles for their continued support. @ty_director 📸
