Another moment for my color-coded bookshelf- because I’ve wanted to do this for a decade and I’m just obsessed with it!!!

PS- yes, i know one of my bookshelves is actually a record player stand. But it was free, and it’s a shelf, and I have many many books and not many / any records. Making it workkk 💕

September is Childhood Cancer Month.

We need more support for children going through cancer. Less than 4% of the US federal funding for cancer research is allocated to childhood cancer.

Children deserve more than 4%.

In honor of this awareness month, here are 21 children's books related to cancer, some of which would be great resources for a child with cancer, their sibling, or a friend.

Others would be good for a child coping with an adult in their family with a cancer diagnosis.

A cancer diagnosis can feel so incredibly overwhelming...especially when there are children involved.

What do we tell them?

How do we tell them?

How much do they need to know?

Where do we even begin?

Often, my suggestion with any difficult, loaded topic is to begin with books.

They give you the language when you feel like you may not know exactly where to begin or what to say.

✨✨9 days until HABBI’S TREASURES becomes a real live picture book out in the world! ✨✨ To celebrate the countdown, here are some of my family’s most loved picture books. We own/ed hundreds of picture books over the years and I couldn’t find all the ones I wanted to share, but these were all very well loved. Looking through these photos, my heart is bursting with gratitude for all the amazing writers and illustrators who made my kids’ early literacy so rich. These books are embedded into their imaginations forever and grew their hearts and minds, just like food did for their bodies. Dolly Parton definitely knew what she was doing when she started the Imagination Library, which sends a free book to kids each month from birth to age 5. (I think the org has sent out 300 million books so far!) Every child deserves an abundance of wonderful stories in their lives. And the quality of the stories we tell young children is the quality of the world we build for their future. So let’s keep the beautiful, hopeful, imagination-growing books circulating. 💪💪
