This lecture will cover the following topics:

Your 2026 type horoscope ☾ The best typefaces of the year, according to S̷T̷A̷R̷S̷ CoFo. Enjoy … and tell us if we’re wrong!

The 2026 forecast is in. Expect turning points, sharp corners, and just enough self-awareness to make things interesting. Each zodiac sign comes with a font that gets the energy. Some are loud, some refined, some full of chaos. All of them say something. Aries

2026 wants less sprinting, more plotting. You will still move fast, but this time with a map. Turns out, being strategic is your new party trick. Mix a little patience with a lot of fire and don’t apologize.

Type match: Go full circle with Shop Sans, a blunt, curve-loving typeface that works hard, bends well, and doesn’t need to show off to show up.

To some extent any competition is a game of chance, but one can strive for objectivity. These twelve TDC72 Type Design judges provide such a wide range of perspectives on so many aspects of type design. Being able to persuade them to join the jury is something I am extremely thankful for as the TDC72 Jury President for Type Design!

JDI is a custom grotesque sans serif typeface created for Just Do It, a YouTube channel known for deep-dive movie reviews. Designed to speak with clarity and punch, JDI brings a bold editorial voice to the screen.

The family includes Regular, Medium, and Black, each with its own italics — designed to enhance tone and expression in the channel’s messaging.

A key feature of the typeface is the Extended style, developed with wide proportions to suit the standard video format — a horizontal layout optimized for widescreen frames.
This version helps maintain a consistent typographic voice across all frame-based design systems.

JDI is functional, flexible, and clear-spoken.
