Over the past 2 months of Lent, I made the decision to take a break from social media.

At the beginning of this, I wrestled with the idea of losing my progress as a “content creator” altogether. But I had to realize that— that was fear trying to keep me from trusting God enough to relinquish my own plans and control. The truth be told my identity doesn’t lie in social media. My identity can be found in Christ alone. There is so much more to my life outside of social media. Giving up social media wasn’t easy but necessary.

Although, social media can be used to bring glory to God’s name, too much of it can be a distraction. The opinions of the world, comparison, doomscrolling tends to put us in this constant cycle of avoiding our realities.

During my time away from social media, I was able to silence the noise, disconnect from the world, and reconnect with the source. It has been refreshing being able to intentionally be present with my life, my love ones and my purpose. As we may know, this journey with Christ is not a straight road. We have our highs and our lows, times when we lose sight; to where we feel God may be more distant or silent.

Let this be an encouragement to take time to discern what is bringing you closer to God and identify what may be distracting you from God. I’ll leave you with one of my favorite scriptures John 15:4-5 which says;

“Remain in me, as I also remain in you. No branch can bear fruit by itself; it must remain in the vine. Neither can you bear fruit unless you remain in me. “I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing.”🩷
