First Harlem Renaissance themed Salon with the red & amber uprights gaveeee. It was a birthday worth remembering. Thank you to those who spoke beautiful wishes, line danced, and received spoken healing from @wrdmtcn . Combining all the senses in art, game, music, and intellectual word play was exactly the kind of remembrance I hoped it would give. Creating Traces of Transtopia, the first all trans masc fashion show in Houston TX, has been the most inspiring and meaningful project experience of my life ✨ I started making these wearable pieces over two years ago and started dreaming of a trans fashion around that time. Since then the project shifted and expanded from my initial idea of 3 models doing a pop-up performance on the dance floor of a queer party into what it’s become: 11 unique looks for 11 trans masc models to perform within a specific installation and set with an original sound piece and movements, created from extensive behind the scenes research, conversations, and bonding 🏳️‍⚧️ So many people contributed to this project and so many of us found a home in this work. We created protection and escape from the rampant transphobia outside. We showed off how beautiful and how different trans masculinity is. We came together and created magic. I am blown away by the support and energy this project has drawn. Thank you everyone who participated for trusting me in taking us where I want us go. I am so proud of what we’ve made and so excited for what we can make next. Excited to announce tickets are live for Traces of Transtopia - an all trans masc fashion show! 🥳 I started this project two years ago and the vision and scope have grown exponentially over this time. unfortunately so too has the importance of this work. As the world outside has become more and more hostile towards trans folks, to be able to make something in community by and for us gives me purpose. I’m blown away by the support and creative energy that people have contributed into this. I see this as the beginning of something vital: collectively building the futures we want to see, taking our safety into our own hands, strengthening our trans networks of care.
