Brooklyn, I am beaming because I’m screening two of my films in you this week and next. A @benedek.tv comedy tonight, Monday 3/17 @lucky13saloon for @videodomenyc. And a @u16.co documentary on Tuesday 3/25 @freddysbrklyn for Slamdance curator @nonfilms’ DarkRoom series. This is a great chance to catch each film in what’s probably either’s final IRL screening! 🍿

I’ll also be DJing twice this weekend, the latter my own party for which I’m quivering with excitement. On Friday 3/21 is an all-nighter at the aptly-named @anythingbklyn as I spin anything vibe-appropriate regardless of genre. Then, on Sunday 2/23, @bushduf is back @jupiter_disco with @_love__letters_ and @violet_flux for a night of acid techno to leave you awestruck! 👽

Friends, lend me your ears! If we only met post-pandemic and you only know me only as a DJ, wait till you know me as a filmmaker. On Monday, I’m showing at Reel to Real at @allnightskate my latest documentary about @young_keenu_ of @baalti.mp3 as he juggles his day job with his ambitions as a music producer. (Spoiler Alert: he has since become a San Francisco stalwart). Then, the same film screens again in Bushwick as part of a stacked lineup of filmmakers at @thebrowngazeclub, a new local festival dedicated to POC voices within the queer community I’m super keen for. Finally, the week after that I’m showing a completely different film, this time a @benedek.tv comedy for @newyorknolimits, at @anthologyfilmarchives of all places, which once rejected my very serious 96-min social documentary back in 2017, but now will screen my ridiculous 3-min meme about the Titan submersible. Life can surprise you, which is why I’m keen to wheel these films out for their first IRL screenings in NYC, in the case of the former, or probably at all or ever, in the case of the latter.

I am beyond quivering with excitement to spin at the opening night party of @prismaticground, among my favorite film festivals in a city overflowing with them. Why?

1. It’s the afterparty to the sold-out NYC premiere of “Hello Dankness” by fellow Aussies @soda______jerk. I first saw “Hollywood Burn” when I was in high school in Sydney and could not get enough of it. Then when I got to the US, I’d show their collaboration with The Avalanches to my college friends during our own moments of dankness. To me they’re among the legends of contemporary experimental cinema, so I hope to follow their form-pushing filmmaking with some form-passing music-mixing.

2. I showed my own film “The Curve of the Earth” at the very first edition of @prismaticground. In the two years since, the fest has ballooned in prestige as word has gotten out of how well @inneyp programs and runs it, to the point that Criterion is now spotlighting it. It’s great to “be back” in a formal capacity, and while I haven’t directed anything new in two years, I’m eager to share the “other thing” I’ve been focusing on instead which is becoming another Brooklyn DJ.

3. I am closing out the party. As most people know from @bushduf, the roving party I curate, my favorite set time as a DJ is always the last one. I look forward to meeting the expectations I have hitherto raised.
