Earlier today USSS officially announced the 21 athletes nominated to the national team for 2026/2027: Eighteen athletes who qualified on an objective basis via their results last season, plus three more named on a discretionary basis.

I walk through the two avenues for selection in today's article. Plus a first look at national-team coaching turnover.

Saturday brought the final day of individual racing in Lillehammer before today's relays close things out: Corbin Carpenter and Ava Thurston led the way for the U.S. in the 10km classic, finishing 13th and 15th, respectively, while the team of Julia Forbes and Tuva Granøien took the win in probably the week's most important race, the tech relay.

On the athletes side of things, Carpenter (UAA) was followed yesterday by Benjamin Dohlby (UAF) in 34th, Anders Weiss (BSF Pro) in 47th, and Fin Bailey (UVM) in 66th. For the women, meanwhile, Thurston (Dartmouth) was followed by Sammy Smith (Stanford) in 23rd, Nina Schamberger (Colorado) 33rd, and Evelyn Walton (Dartmouth) 44th.

And again, Julia Forbes and Tuva Granøien won the tech relay (photo 9). Photo 10 shows Carpenter, bib 32, deeply chilling in Thursday's 20km (to keep from running into the athletes in front of him), if you are curious whether the tech team this week was good at making fast skis as well as skiing fast themselves.

Results links and brief additional rundown in article. Up on site now; link in bio.

The World Juniors/U23 Championships trip is a pillar project of and receives financial support from @gonnf.

Maybe not the results they were hoping for, but yesterday U23 10k Interval race was another solid day for the team. And speaking of team, I am proud to announce that the USA now has the fastest Tech Service Team in the entire world. Toss in the "What Cat Are You Feeling Like Today" service cabin screener and we're wrapping up a great trip. #gonnf
