This year, the Philosophy Department is introducing a new award: the Motivation, Vision, and Purpose award. 🏆 This award recognizes a Philosophy major whose initiative and leadership help advance the goals of the department both within the department and beyond it. In the last year alone, this student began using her philosophy education to help the School of Public Health reform their ethics curriculum, she designed the first upper-level online seminar in advanced bioethics, and she created, served as Associate Director for, and worked tirelessly to ensure the success of UAB's first ever Philosophy Day camp for middle and high schoolers. With gratitude and congratulations, we award Clementine Atkinson with the UAB Philosophy Department's inaugural MVP award. 💛🐲💚

UAB's new Shelby Biosciences Research Building is officially open, bringing together world-class researchers from the Heersink School of Medicine and the College of Arts and Sciences.

More than an investment in research space, this new facility is an investment in collaboration, discovery and the potential to improve lives across Alabama and beyond.

By bringing biomedical scientists, behavioral researchers and clinical investigators together, UAB is creating new opportunities to turn scientific discoveries into better ways to prevent, diagnose and treat disease. A group of people stand in a row holding a large ribbon. Behind them is a screen displaying "UAB Shelby Biosciences Research Building" with a building image. Green, gold, and white balloons are arranged on either side of the screen. The setting appears to be a formal ribbon-cutting event indoors.

For Dr. Marcin Bochenek, an associate professor and Head of the Dance Department at the Józef Piłsudski Academy of Physical Education in Biała Podlaska, Poland, international collaboration is an essential part of advancing dance education and cultural understanding. Through the Erasmus+ exchange program, Bochenek brought that commitment to the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB), where he explored new approaches to movement, teaching and interdisciplinary learning.

The Erasmus+ program, an initiative of the European Union, supports international academic mobility, allowing students, doctoral candidates and participating higher education institutions to exchange knowledge, develop intercultural skills and gain new academic perspectives. Through partnerships between universities, the program creates opportunities for participants to experience different educational environments and build connections that extend beyond national borders.
