Possibilities. Today our classroom moved outside as students explored UAB and worked on creating a scavenger hunt for school-aged children and their families. A chance to move, explore, notice, wonder, and create. More than anything, I hope experiences like this remind future teachers to stay curious. To make connections. To play with ideas. To look at something familiar and wonder what else it could become. Curiosity, creativity, and connection are in all of us. Sometimes we just need the space to explore the possibilities. 💚🐉

You might be a physical educator if… 🔥🐉🎳 …you look at the UAB Blaze hand sign and immediately see the PERFECT cue for teaching students how to hold a bowling ball. Today, one of our future physical educators described the hand position for holding a bowling ball as: “Make your hand like the Blaze dragon.” GENIUS. MOVE. Simple. Visual. Memorable. And completely UAB. 💚💛 This is what I love about preparing future physical educators. Great teaching isn’t always about having the fanciest lesson plan. Sometimes it’s about seeing something familiar, making an unexpected connection, and finding the cue that makes a skill suddenly CLICK for your students. A bucket of bowling balls + a UAB dragon + a creative future teacher = UAB Physical Education We’re not just learning how to teach skills. We’re learning how to make movement make sense. Go Blazers. 🔥🐉🎳 #UABPhysicalEducation

🦸‍♀️ We are physical educators. What’s your superpower? We see opportunities for movement EVERYWHERE. 💥 Today, that meant trading our traditional classroom for the 🌳 Treehouse Room at the Vestavia Hills Library in the Forest 🌳 and putting our creativity to work. The challenge? Take traditional board games and reimagine them as fun, active fitness experiences for middle schoolers. 🎲🏃‍♀️💨 Because physical educators don’t just teach movement, we find ways to make movement engaging, creative, and something kids WANT to do. ✨ Change the scenery. 🎲 Rethink the game. 💪 Get kids moving. That’s our superpower.

Meet Mallory Jones '25, BA in Studio Art. This summer, Mallory began graduate school to pursue her dream of becoming an art educator. We asked Mallory for an update: "I am currently pursuing an Alternative Master’s Degree in Visual Arts Education at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. Through this degree program, I will earn my Alabama teaching certification. It is my goal to become an art teacher in a public school setting. I began taking courses online this past May, starting with a class about teaching in diverse classrooms and a poster design course. Although the program mainly focuses on education, I am still required to take a few art and art history courses as part of my degree. I really enjoy this aspect of the program because it allows me to continue exploring and developing new artistic techniques, something I thoroughly enjoyed during my time at Auburn. I am excited to continue learning and growing as both an artist and a future educator while working on my master's degree!" War Eagle, Mallory! 🐅 Photograph of alumna Mallory Jones.

You might be a physical education teacher if… You dribble down the hallway and dance with ribbons on the first day of class. Because why would we start a semester sitting still?
