Your next hire may be an AI agent.
Who will define its authority?

An agent can be configured to execute workflows, communicate with customers and commit resources. That makes agent readiness a leadership decision.

Before giving an agent access, answer five questions:

→ Mandate: What outcome should it deliver?
→ Authority: What can it decide without approval?
→ Context: Can it access reliable data within clear permissions?
→ Accountability: Which human owns the outcome?
→ Intervention: Who can stop it—and recover when it fails?

Buying capability is easy. Building the organization that can responsibly delegate to it is the executive challenge.

If your AI agent acted tomorrow, which would be least ready: your data, your processes or your decision rights?

Your AI agent delegated the task.
Did it also delegate accountability?

Like Russian nesting dolls, one agent can conceal another layer of execution: a planner instructs a specialist, which calls a tool, which triggers a business action.

When the outcome fails, identifying the last agent to act is only the beginning.

For CEOs, the governance question is:
Who authorised the chain—and who owns its outcome?

My principle: delegation may distribute execution; it should never dissolve accountability.

Before deploying multiple agents, establish:
• A named human owner for the business outcome.
• Explicit limits on what each agent may delegate.
• A traceable record of instructions, approvals and actions.
• Clear authority to pause, override and recover.

AI readiness means knowing who remains in control as the chain grows.

If your agents can delegate five levels deep, can your governance follow?

AI is making us faster. But is it making us smarter?

Research suggests overreliance on AI can weaken critical thinking.

We used to research, compare and form our own conclusions. Now we just ask AI.

Don’t outsource your brain.

✅ Read the output.
✅ Question the answers.
✅ Verify the facts.
✅ Add your own thinking.

Use AI to sharpen your mind, not replace it.
