Our annual reports are one way we stay accountable to movements: not just reporting what we funded, but also telling their stories and what we learned alongside them.
Stories hold what numbers can’t: the courage, care, and strategy behind every act of resistance.

The 2025 annual reports from the Urgent Action Sister Funds offer distinct perspectives on sustaining feminist movements through permacrisis, and on what becomes possible when we invest in the people, relationships, and infrastructures that hold them together.

In an emergency, time matters. So does who gets to decide what the response looks like — and how resources are used.
Following the earthquakes in Colombia and Venezuela, movements were already responding: organizing shelter, food, medicines, transport, care and protection in their communities, often before outside funding arrived.

In our latest Sister Funds blog, FAU LAC reflects on why fast funding alone is not enough. Resources also need to be flexible and shaped by the knowledge and priorities of people closest to the crisis.

WE DID IT! FIERCE, alongside its programmatic interventions, is also becoming a community.

We are consciously carrying forward the lineage of our ancestors, while recognising that we, too, are the future ancestors. Building and sustaining this community of women environmental human rights defenders since 2023 is our humble attempt to give back, to archive our journeys, honour the Earth, protect those who defend it, and create something lasting for those who will come after us.

We hope to leave behind more than a programme. We hope to nurture a living community rooted in care, courage, collective memory and solidarity, and to leave this world a little better than we found it.

Here’s to the beginning of our shared journey.

Since 2024, FIERCE has been bringing together women environmental human rights defenders from across Pakistan to co-research, learn, connect and strengthen collective safety and wellbeing.

Now, we are building this work into a growing community rooted in solidarity, collective care and shared action. If you are a woman environmental human rights defender working in Pakistan, we would love to learn about you and welcome you into the FIERCE Community.

This summer, the Marianas endured 2 category five super typhoons just 82 days apart, displacing thousands and leaving many families with little time to recover between storms. Despite the weight of climate disasters, the gift of our islands has always been the care of her people. As Nihi concludes our part in this season of relief work, we want to thank everyone who has consistently shown up for the village and moved resources across islands. To our storytelling teams, aid coordinators, donors, local partners, and funders. Nihi is a small team but our community is vast. It’s a privilege to uphold our islands alongside you.

FIERCE has always been a space shaped by the voices and experiences of defenders.

Across our previous two cohorts, we sat with defenders from different parts of Pakistan, learning from their stories, their movements, the risks they face, and the many ways they continue to show up for their communities. With every conversation we understood a little more about what it means to be a defender today and what it takes to feel safe while doing this work.

One thing became clear that the challenges defenders face are not limited to physical spaces. They extend into the digital spaces where they organise, communicate, speak out and build solidarity. For many defenders, their phones and online platforms are essential to their work but these same spaces expose them to digital and tech-facilitated GBV.

FIERCE evolves for Cohort 3, wherein alongside rest, care and well-being, we are turning our attention to digital resilience. FIERCE will be a space to pause, learn, share and build together, where we can learn how to protect ourselves without shrinking our voices. We will explore how do we stay connected without compromising our safety? And how do we build digital spaces that allow movements to thrive.

Who can apply?
Applications are open to:
• Women and trans women aged 18–35 years.
• Individuals with experience in climate justice, environmental sustainability, disaster response, human rights, or related fields.

Who cannot apply:
• Applicants from or based in ICT and provincial capitals (Peshawar, Quetta, Karachi, Lahore)

If you’re ready to be part of a community that believes in bold ideas, collective power, and feminist action this is your moment. FIERCE will be a week-long in-person space, hosted in Islamabad, towards the end of September, 2026.

The forecast is in: It’s cloudy with a guarantee of political instability, climate emergencies, economic uncertainty and humanitarian crises.

Storms don’t stop for a debrief, neither should funding. Communities need resourcing built for the long haul, not just the next emergency.

On 26 April in Narrm/Melbourne, we launched our report ‘Resourcing Strategies in an Age of Permacrisis’ in a room full of conversations, questions, and possibilities.

Over the coming weeks, we’ll unpack the ideas behind the report, explore the realities of living through permacrisis, and ask what it really takes to resource feminist movements.
