I AM Herstory: UAPB Edition 🦁✨💐 As we begin Women’s History Month, we are honoring the life, leadership, and lasting legacy of Shirley Jacob—a trailblazer whose service shaped UAPB and the Pine Bluff community for generations.

As a proud graduate of Arkansas Agricultural, Mechanical, and Normal College and a devoted member of the Delta Eta Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., Ms. Jacob dedicated over 60 years to the sorority, serving in numerous leadership roles including treasurer, vice president, and president.

Beyond her sorority work, Ms. Jacob served as a Business Education teacher with the Pine Bluff School District and as a Training Manager for the Opportunities Industrialization Center. Her heart, however, remained deeply rooted at UAPB, where she spent most of her career in student-centered leadership—including serving as Dean of Student Involvement and Leadership.

In 1992, Ms. Jacob played a pivotal role in the planning and implementation of the Student Leadership Conference, now known as the L. A. Torrence Institute for Excellence in Student Leadership (LATIESL)—a program that continues to develop student leaders today. Her excellence was recognized with numerous honors, including the Daniel Rudd Award from the Arkansas Diocese of Black Catholics, along with recognitions from Arkansas Sorors of Delta Sigma Theta, the Pine Bluff Alumnae Chapter, and the Southwestern Region.

This tribute is enacted by Jada Tolbert, the current President of the Delta Eta Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. and a Marketing & Management Intern for the Office of Student Involvement and Leadership.

This is Women’s History—vision, service, and leadership that continues to inspire.

Tonight’s New Student Pinning Ceremony was a true Golden Lion spark 🦁✨ New students were officially welcomed into The Pride with inspiring remarks from our Chancellor, warm welcomes from the Dean of Student Involvement & Leadership, and a message from the Division of University College. Students took an oath led by Institutional Advancement, reflected with voices from student leadership, and were pinned by students leaders and staff—sealing their place in the UAPB family. 🖤💛 #UAPB #CLASSOF2029 #UAPB29 #UPROAR25 #NewStudentWeek #DearMother #TheYard #HBCU
