Proud to join our great team of Deans on the UBC Vancouver campus for a discussion of challenges and opportunities for The @universityofbc in the short- and longer-term. Deans are absolutely critical to our academic and research mission and I am so thankful for the strategic and collegial leadership of this great group. Thank you all! ⁣

It was an honour to be invited to mentor UBC’s graduating dental students and offer guidance as they begin their professional journeys.

My message was simple: being a dentist means being a doctor first.

Our responsibility goes beyond creating beautiful smiles. It’s about understanding the person behind the smile and treating people, not just teeth.

I’m proud to see these remarkable individuals stepping into what I believe is one of the most meaningful and rewarding professions. Their enthusiasm, compassion and curiosity make me excited for the future of dentistry.

Did you know that the immune system does more than fight infections?

Research from Dr. Jessica Rosin’s lab is revealing how CSF1R-expressing immune cells help shape bones, teeth, the skull and facial muscles before birth.

Blocking CSF1R during pregnancy in mice led to changes across these tissues, highlighting how cells surrounding a structure can influence how it forms.

📸 New camera. New skills. New obsession 💫
Had an amazing time learning dental photography with @dr.marijana.eic at @ubcdentistry . Thanks for all the tips, patience, and inspiration. We finally got the camera to work! Haha

Shoutout to @canoncanada for the setup and their Student Ambassador Program for giving the best discounts; and to @godox_canada and @fixlitebydrcalinpop for a perfect macro flash accessories amalgamation!

Guess I’m gonna go and look for more student financing options unless one of them decides to sponsor the MF12 macro twin flash for the greater good! Haha😅

Also, thanks to @_atsstudio for their recommendation on selecting the right camera and lens for the job. Truly grateful for the right advice 🫶

Such a great evening at the UBC Dental Student Mixer in Vancouver!

Proud to represent Dentalcorp as a sponsor and, even more importantly, to connect with the incredible dental students who will soon be shaping the future of our profession.

It was nice getting to know students from all four years, and it’s always inspiring to hear about their journeys, goals and excitement for the future of dentistry.

Thank you to UBC Dentistry for a wonderful evening—we’re excited to continue building relationships and supporting future dental professionals!

New loupes. One question: are they actually aligned for me?

I came across a JADA paper titled Out of the loupe, which examined coaxial alignment among 97 dental professionals in British Columbia (Research was actually done at UBC by a RDH graduate).

In that sample, 82% were using loupes with vertical coaxial misalignment.

The paper describes a simple visual test:

🔴 Centre the red dot
🎨 Confirm that the same colour band appears at the top and bottom
➖ Check whether the red line remains continuous between the magnified and unmagnified views

So I tried it with my @admetec Ergo V loupes.

The red line stayed continuous—indicating vertical coaxial alignment for me at the test position. ✅

This evaluates one important component of individual loupe fit; it isn’t a complete ergonomic assessment or a result that can be generalized to every wearer.

Would your loupes pass this test?
