Sooooo… it was nearly 10pm and after working 12 hours, I needed a creative break. My TAS Alumni (now assistants) encouraged me to get more content done. They shot and edited this video in a pinch! Watch till the end for bloopers. It’s been a FUN ride. See you Saturday, Aug 1st. You REALLY DON’T want to miss the showcase... This TAS cohort is bringing the 🔥🔥🔥🔥✨✨✨✨

What is now a Teen Arts Summit started with a PASSION for the arts‼️

This was me as at my 6th grade graduation from Morningside Elementary into middle school. I was just about to sing “Lean on Me” by Kirk Franklin with a group of friends from my 6th grade class.

This was the first non-church platform I had where I sang a lead part. I couldn’t wait to sing “OPEN UP YA HEART AND SAAAAAAAAAAAAAYYYYY”. But up until that moment, I was nervous and scared that I would fail. My family and friends were cheering me on and had great expectation for me! I’ll never forget just finding the courage within to lean my head back and belt out that line! Once I hit that note, there was freedom in unleashing a sound that made me feel like I could do anything!!! Oh the JOY it brought me to find a space where I belonged.

It wasn’t just about my support system or the excitement about graduating. I later realized that singing would be a way of expression, a place of safety and something I could be passionate about.

Whether your teen already knows or has yet to find out, there is freedom and joy in finding a positive way of expression. Let’s unleash that creativity and ignite that passion!!
