It was an absolute honour to sponsor the @unicanberra @uc_artsdesign @ucdesign_fadx graduate exhibition!

We presented The Jude Interaction Design Award last night. The award recognises a student who has demonstrated a clear vision for their interaction design work, executed to a high professional standard and showing strong industry readiness.

And the very deserving winner was Katrina Sisourath. A big congratulations again, from all of us here at Jude! 👏🏼

We are so impressed with all the bright young minds who are soon to graduate with degrees in design, communications and the arts. We saw loads of creativity and innovation on display, as these clever students prepare themselves to launch into their professional careers. 🚀

Thanks to photographer Steve Keough, we've got quite a few photos to share from the @salon_canberra #internationalwomensday2025 event held in partnership with @aecom_up_anz and some important takeaways from the conversation too:

🔹 Workplace culture is everything. We can’t solve workforce shortages or improve diversity without tackling the industry’s deep-rooted cultural issues, from long hours to lack of flexibility.
🔹 Inclusion, not just diversity. A diverse workforce means little if workplaces aren’t genuinely inclusive—where people feel valued, respected, and supported to thrive.
🔹 Accountability matters. Policies and initiatives are meaningless without real enforcement. If companies commit to change, they must be held to it.
🔹 Leadership drives change. Cultural shifts don’t happen in isolation—leaders at every level must set the tone, call out outdated behaviours and advocate for better workplaces.
🔹 Flexibility isn’t optional. The rigid, inflexible nature of construction work has been a barrier for too long. We now have evidence that smarter scheduling improves well being, productivity and retention.

Over my final semester, I managed the graphic design (print media) team for the FADX Graduate Showcase 2024. My team & I were tasked with producing the student showcase panels and event booklets to help the students portray their skills to industry professionals & guests. I'm proud of our hard work, the result & the compliments we received on the booklets on the event night. Thank you to all of our sponsors for making this all possible! I am grateful for this experience & the project management, communication, and leadership skills it gave me.

This year our Canberra studio welcomed our first Intern, Iris Schimmelpfennig, as part of the Work Integrated Learning Program at The University of Canberra. The DC/UC Intern Program is a partnership between Davenport Campbell and The University Of Canberra that offers students in the Bachelor of the Built Environment (Interior Architecture) program a paid opportunity to gain experience in a working studio, supplementing their academic studies and preparing them for the next phase of their design careers.

Earlier this month, Iris exhibited her final design studio work as part of the FADX Graduate Festival, and won an award for being the most industry ready! Having witnessed her dedication, skill, and the incredible contribution she has made to the DC team, we couldn’t be prouder. Congratulations Iris!

We are excited to announce that the 2024 Davenport Campbell Prize for Excellence in Interior Architecture has been awarded to Lola Sedran, as part of the 2024 FADX Graduate Festival at The University of Canberra (UC).

In partnership with UC, this prize is awarded to a student in their final year of the Bachelor of the Built Environment (Interior Architecture) program, who has exhibited a high degree of rigour and depth in their design thinking, and showed confidence and clarity in the presentation of their final design studio.

Lola’s submission, ‘Kin’, explores place-based learning in a dynamic suburban context, creating learning spaces that facilitate connections to the broader community. Lola’s pragmatic approach to spatial planning creates definition between admin and learning areas, united by a community focused hall at the centre of the site. Changes in the interior volume express the transition between public, private and learning spaces, and a refined palette serves as a backdrop to encourage spatial adaptation and exploration.

Congratulations to Lola from the DC team!

EXHIBITION – Second Skin

In the face of climate change, with rising global temperatures and an increased risk of extreme weather events, there’s an urgent need to reconsider ways of making residential buildings (existing and new) more resilient.

The University of Canberra’s research team presents Second Skin, an exhibition exploring innovative, climate-responsive architectural approaches using bio-based, low-carbon materials. This exhibition will showcase immersive projection mappings, sensor-augmented models, architectural drawings, and full-scale material prototypes.

The research team: @mic_lou @s_farrah_ @iainmaxmaxwell @tomkinsdesign @noah.watson1 @jonno_le_chung

Visit the exhibition on Wednesday 13 November, 5-6:30pm, at the UC Lodge Gallery Space, Pantowora Street, University of Canberra Campus, Bruce.

This research was supported by an Alastair Swayn Foundation Design Strategy Grant.

Revamping Canberra United’s Team Space

This design was inspired by the rich history of the club where imagery was used to celebrate big moments from their history.

I had the pleasure of taking the lead on this project within the UC Design Agency.

Thanks to the creative talent of @azzamckazza @happydancecreative we’ve got an infographic to share from this month’s Salon Canberra Ideas Forum held at the National Film and Sound Archive of Australia, capturing the essence of the discussion on creating dynamic and inclusive cities. He’s even cleverly captured the NFSA’s resident ghost!

Our speakers - Prof Rob Adams AM, Dr Erin Hinton and Felicity Stewart - providing invaluable perspectives on how we can collectively and deliberately shape Canberra’s evolving landscape. From preserving our city’s unique character to reimagining underutilised spaces, the conversation underscored the power of collective vision and innovative thinking.

Take a look to see the highlights.
