A temporary restraining order should mean safety.

The Lori Jackson-Nicolette Elias Domestic Violence Survivors Protection Act seeks to close a loophole that can leave survivors vulnerable during one of the most dangerous periods of an abusive relationship.

Named in memory of Lori Jackson, an Oxford mother of two who was killed while a temporary restraining order was in place, this legislation would help strengthen protections for survivors when they need them most.

Each year, BHcare honors Lori's memory through the Lori Jackson Walk and continues to advocate for policies that help protect survivors and prevent future tragedies.

Protecting survivors saves lives. Watch, learn more, and help raise awareness. 💜

From our offices and programs to our thrift store (and even a few furry friends 🐾), staff across BHcare participated in Purple Thursday to raise awareness about domestic violence and honor survivors.

💜 October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month, a reminder of how important it is to recognize unhealthy behaviors, respect boundaries, and promote healthy relationships.

Remember: You deserve relationships that make you feel safe, supported, and valued. 💗

Hope can't wait. 💜

For someone experiencing domestic violence, safety can't wait. Support can't wait. A place to sleep can't wait. A child living in fear can't wait.

At Sound of Hope, survivors, advocates, law enforcement, elected officials, and community members came together to send a clear message: help must be available when it's needed most.

If you or someone you know is experiencing domestic violence, free and confidential support is available 24/7 through CT Safe Connect at 888-774-2900.

Elected officials, law enforcement, advocates, survivors, and supporters came together for Sound of Hope to honor the 23 Connecticut lives lost to domestic violence in 2025 and reaffirm our commitment to ending domestic violence.
This year's theme, Hope Can't Wait, is a reminder that when someone reaches out for help, support must be there. Safety can't wait. Healing can't wait. Hope can't wait. 💜
Thank you to our partners, speakers, elected officials, law enforcement representatives, advocates, and community leaders who joined us and continue to stand with survivors, including Senator Richard Blumenthal, Congresswomen Rosa DeLauro,
CT Coalition Against Domestic Violence, Mayor Justin Elicker, City of New Haven, and New Haven Police Department.

If you or someone you know is experiencing domestic violence, free and confidential support is available 24/7 at 888-774-2900.

Connecting community members with resources, support, and information is at the heart of what we do. 💜

BHcare was proud to participate in the Orange Senior Health & Safety Fair, where representatives from Alliance Prevention & Wellness, The Umbrella Center for Domestic Violence Services, and Hope Family Justice Center shared resources and connected with attendees.

Whether through prevention and wellness education, support for survivors of domestic violence, or coordinated services for individuals and families, our programs work together to advance BHcare's mission of helping people achieve hope, health, and recovery.
