Labs, study spaces, greenery… and robots 🤖 Welcome to student life at UCL East.   Muhammad, a fourth-year Robotics and Artificial Intelligence MEng student, is back to share his campus highlights.   Officially opened in September 2023, UCL East is set in @queenelizabetholympicpark in Stratford, east London. Its green surroundings offer space to slow down between classes, while the bustling shops and restaurants around Westfield Stratford City and Stratford station are a walk away. Whether you’re after a calmer setting or a lively shopping and dining district, you have both within reach.   The campus is also part of @EastBank, a cultural and education quarter bringing together UCL, V&A East, Sadler’s Wells East and UAL’s London College of Fashion, with BBC Music Studios due to open in 2027.   Look out for more student tips in the coming days.   Have you visited UCL East yet? Tell us your favourite spot 👇   Credit: Footage of the humanoid and quadruped robots in action, comes courtesy of another Robotics and AI MEng student and talented videographer, Ian Yin.   #UCLEast #WelcomeToUCL #NewStudents

And here's something to sink your teeth into! 🧛🏻‍♀️ I've realised it's officially been a year since I've come back from my post grad studies, so I'm digging my AV essays out from the archives~ Here's part of my submission for the 'Rethinking Film on Screen' module. 🎬 Singapore’s Golden Age of Cinema is best remembered for its many hantus 👻 Before Hollywood scream queens, there was Pontianak (1957), the OG Malay horror film that terrified and thrilled audiences across Singapore and Malaya. Directed by B.N. Rao, this haunting legend wasn’t just about jump scares; it was a mirror of society itself. The word Pontianak actually comes from “Perempuan Mati Beranak,” meaning a woman who dies in childbirth. Her “curse”? Being punished for failing traditional gender roles 💔 But here’s the twist: she’s not the villain… she’s the symbol of resistance. 🎞️ In the 1960s, horror films weren’t just entertainment; they were social commentary. They challenged gender norms, modern anxieties, and gave communities a way to gather, scream, and reflect together. By humanising the monster, these films whispered a timeless message: Don’t mess with women 😤💅 #horror #vampire #1960s #filmcritic #singapore

What can you see from your UCL window? 👀🪟 View 01: Taken from our Robotics Lab, One Pool Street, looking towards Marshgate building and the ArcelorMittal Orbit (red slide), UCL East campus. Welcome to View from my UCL window – a new weekly series exploring the views that surround everyday life across our buildings and campuses.   Every Friday, we’ll look out from UCL Computer Science spaces and venture into shared corners of UCL too – from familiar landmarks to perspectives you may not have seen before.   Students and staff: we’d love to see your view.   You can either: • Share a photo or short video on Instagram and tag @yourhandle • Or, send it to us by DM. (If your account is private, please send your view by DM) along with where it was taken and a sentence about what you can see.   When you submit, please tell us: 📸Where your view was captured (section/dept, building, campus) 💻Whether you’re a student or member of staff 🌇Which part of UCL you study or work in 📹Please send photos and videos in portrait orientation. Videos should be around 4–10 seconds long. 💡Remember to add #ViewFromMyUCLWindow.   We might feature your submission in the series. Please only send or tag us in content that you’re happy for us to share. A quiet day with a very big canvas. 🎨🎭 Spent the day helping paint this incredible theatre backdrop at Bloomsbury Theatre as part of Lauren Godfrey’s UCL200 Artist in Residence project. There was something so calm and therapeutic about it, standing in front of such a huge canvas, slowly filling the space with colour, shape and movement. It felt less like “painting a backdrop” and more like being part of something that will eventually come alive on stage. It was lovely working with Lauren, Eva and the team, and meeting people from different creative backgrounds. The day had such a warm energy, plus I got the most memorable celebrity-style entrance from a tiny superstar, which I will honestly remember for life. 😂✨ I’m so grateful to have been part of this process and I cannot wait to see the final outcome soon. A huge thank you to @dash_0219 for capturing these amazing photos 📸 #paint #painting #art #artistic #creative
