🎉FREE DANCE WORKSHOPS! Although UCONN doesn’t have an official dance program, I have had the delight of offering a dance course for past two falls and it’s truly been spectacular. I’m super excited to have Dylan Smythe back at UConn next week offering free DANCE WORKSHOPS and working with students on the research & development of Natural Walking Disasters, @roughandtumbleproductions‘ multi-year project. *You do not need dance experience. If you need to come late or leave early, that is fine too (just slip in or out) Tuesday, Oct. 20 5:00–6:15 PM — Waacking/Punking Wednesday, Oct. 21 3:35–4:50 PM — Waacking/Punking in my DRAM 1811 Dance Appreciation class; 10 spots open to additional students 5:00–6:30 PM — House + Capoeira-informed contemporary fusion. DRMU Studio 101 Register here: https://forms.cloud.microsoft/r/hpY6j62jdd Dylan is a Philadelphia-based dancer, choreographer, percussionist, and performance maker. A lifelong student of embodied practices, his work is rooted in rhythm, music, improvisation, clown and dance . Since 2018, he has trained and performed in the Black American social dance forms Waacking and House at Urban Movement Arts, where he now teaches and choreographs for groups including FLOW STATE and WorkinOnIt. He has performed with Nichole Canuso Dance Company, Vince Johnson/UMA, Lily Kind/Wolfthicket, Chelsea Murphy, and the Liz Delise Band, amongst others, and in 2024 was invited to Cairo to choreograph in Egypt at the Breaking Walls Festival. He is also Co-Artistic Director of Rough & Tumble Productions, whose work includes Good Grief!, Magic Trash Day, Make Bank, and Natural Walking Disasters (in development!) He’s a wonderful person to move with, and I especially recommend these workshops if you want to expand your dance vocabulary, shake up habitual movement choices, and find new ways into character, confidence, play, and presence. Open to all huskies! Come play! @uconnsfa @uconndramaticarts #waacking #punkingdance #housedance #uconndancecompany

"Now more than ever, especially in the currently political climate, community is more important than ever. I have long believed that the most effective way to change the world is to nurture the people immediately around you and hold yourself and the people you love accountable in creating a community of fierce care. It costs nothing to be kind." Will Naraghi is a Connecticut based actor currently training at the UCONN. With a passion for lifelong learning, he believes in “holding the mirror up to nature”—crafting performances that resonate with honesty, humanity, and a desire to spark conversation.
