A big thank you to Vantage for supporting sensory education in our 2026 Emulsion & Surfactant Technology course! ✨🧴
Our students explored how jojoba esters can influence the sensory properties of formulations—giving them the chance to experience firsthand how ingredient selection translates into differences in feel and product performance.
There’s no substitute for actually making, testing, and comparing formulations, and we’re grateful to Vantage for helping us make that possible! 💙💛

Thank you, Lubrizol, for helping bring rheology and formulation science to life for our UCR students! 🧪
During our 2026 Emulsion & Surfactant Technology course, students got hands-on experience exploring how rheology influences the structure, stability, texture, and performance of formulated products.
We’re so appreciative of industry partners who help us turn concepts from the classroom into real formulation experiences! 💙💛

⭐️ Alumni in Action ⭐️

From the lab to the cosmetics industry, Dr. Ryan Kudla has built an impressive career while remaining deeply committed to giving back to the next generation of Highlanders.

A trained solid-state NMR spectroscopist turned cosmetic chemist, Dr. Kudla now serves as an Account Manager at Barnet Products and is an active leader in the California Chapter of the Society of Cosmetic Chemists. He helped develop the first chemistry focused cosmetic science certificate program on the West Coast, teaches the Product Development course, and played a key role in establishing a UC Riverside endowment and scholarship opportunities for students pursuing careers in the cosmetics industry.

His dedication to UCR extends beyond the classroom. As a longtime volunteer with the Department of Chemistry and a recent Dinner with Alumni panelist, Dr. Kudla continues to inspire students by sharing his expertise, mentoring future scientists, and creating opportunities for Highlanders to succeed.
