Where is science taking Mathew Oaks next? Deeper into nuclear research.

After earning his B.S. in physics at UC Santa Barbara, Mathew will spend another year continuing research with Professor Philip Lubin while applying to Ph.D. programs in nuclear engineering.

His UCSB research introduced him to neutron activation, radiation transport and computational modeling. Along the way, he built experience with scientific coding, nuclear data, simulation tools and the process of turning a research idea into something physically meaningful.

“Real growth usually comes from being willing to struggle, ask questions, and be uncomfortable,” Mathew says. Keep showing up, keep asking questions and let the moments when you feel out of your depth become part of the learning.

Congratulations, Mathew. We’re excited to see where science takes you next.

ITS SHAKEDOWN TIME.

This past weekend, the team put the pedal to the metal and pushed GR26 to the limit. We were able to drive the car for atleast 10 kilometers throughout the weekend, letting our drivers get used to the car and giving our engineers data to analyze.

Big thanks to the Camino Real Marketplace for giving us permission to test in their parking lot after hours and to @homedepot for working with us throughout the night

Go Gauchos!
