More Than a Triton: Alexia Lau

For Alexia Lau, an injury sparked a curiosity that would grow into a passion for orthopedic surgery. As a psychology major and women's rowing scholar-athlete, she is exploring the field through spine research at UC San Diego and Rady Children's Hospital.

From studying spinal conditions in the lab to joining a volunteer medical mission in Mexico, Lau is gaining firsthand experience in how research and surgical care can change lives. Each opportunity is bringing her closer to her goal of becoming an orthopedic surgeon.

As she continues her academic and athletic journey at UC San Diego, Lau is turning her curiosity into a future dedicated to research, medicine, and helping others.

After careful consideration, I’m pleased to announce my verbal commitment to continue my athletic and academic career at the University of California San Diego for Division 1 Rowing.

A huge thanks to Coach Moon for helping me achieve one of my biggest dreams. Thank you to my parents, especially my father for making me the person I am today. You both helped me realize how strong I am.

I want to shoutout all my closest friends, teammates, and relatives for loving me and staying with me throughout this process. I love you guys!!

GO TRITONS 🔱

It’s with great enthusiasm and glory to God that I announce I have signed with, and will be transferring to, UC San Diego to continue my academic and athletic career at the D1 level!

I first want to thank everyone at the University of Miami for being apart of my journey; especially my teammates, you guys are my #GOATS and I’ve definitely met some bridesmaids here 🤍 I’m incredibly lucky to have been given the opportunity to study and row for the U.

I also want to thank everyone else who has supported me during this time: my family, my friends, Roy Jeffery, and Coach Dale for this incredible opportunity!

The past two years have challenged me in ways I never could have imagined, both as an athlete and as a person. There were major setbacks, seasons of loss, uncertainty, and moments when I couldn’t see what God was doing. But luckily for all of us resilience isn’t avoiding hardship, but choosing to get back up. It’s trusting that even when the path doesn’t make sense, God is still writing a story greater than the one you could have planned for yourself.

I’m so excited for what this next chapter has in store for me. Go tritons!! 🔱🔱
