BLACK CONTRACTORS & TRADESPEOPLE 👇🏾

If we created a real CONTRACTOR CODE OF CONDUCT…

What is ONE principle that absolutely has to be on it?

Drop yours below. ⬇️

BLACK CONTRACTORS… WE GOTTA TALK. 🛠️

And I’m saying WE because I’m one of us.

There are GREAT Black contractors out here doing quality work every single day.

But we also have to be willing to hold each other accountable.

Because every time somebody:

❌ Doesn’t show up
❌ Stops communicating
❌ Overpromises and underdelivers
❌ Leaves a job unfinished
❌ Doesn’t respect the customer
❌ Doesn’t stand behind their work

…it doesn’t only affect THAT contractor.

It adds to a stigma that the GOOD Black contractors have to fight against too.

And I don’t believe the answer is tearing each other down.

The answer is raising the STANDARD. 🎯

That’s why I believe we need a CODE OF CONDUCT.

Integrity.
Character.
Communication.
Accountability.
Presentation.
Customer service.
Quality workmanship.
Professionalism.

And this is bigger than the contractors working TODAY.

I’m thinking about the NEXT generation too.

Because with Earn With Your Hands Academy™, I don’t only want to teach young people and aspiring contractors how to use tools.

I want to teach them how to SHOW UP.

How to speak to customers.
How to present themselves.
How to communicate.
How to price professionally.
How to stand on their word.
How to take accountability.
How to protect their reputation.

Because learning the trade can get you the job…

But CHARACTER can determine whether they call you back. 💯

We don’t change the narrative by arguing about the narrative.

WE CHANGE IT BY BECOMING THE EXAMPLE.

Let’s hold each other accountable.
Let’s raise the standard.
Let’s build together. 🛠️🤝🏾

Shoutout to @udaphilly + @drexeluniv 🎓

Congratulations COHORT 3 🏗️

It was a great experience connecting with an awesome group of people from all across the city, all at different stages of their development journey. From aspiring developers working on their first deal to people already in the trenches building and developing. The knowledge and relationships were invaluable, but now the real work begins.

In the words of Cohort 3… LFG 💥

🎓 DEVELOPER.

Officially adding a new title to the list: Real Estate Developer. 🏗️🏡

I’m proud to say I’ve officially completed the UDA/Drexel University Next Gen Developer Program!

For me, this is so much bigger than a certificate. I’ve spent the last few years learning how to invest in real estate, and now I’m stepping into the next phase — building and developing.

My goal is to break ground on my first ground-up development within the next 3 months: a 3-unit affordable housing project in North Philadelphia.

And I’m bringing you ALL with me.

From land acquisition, financing, permits, architectural plans, construction, inspections, the inevitable headaches 😂, and eventually handing over the keys I’m documenting every phase of this journey.

So consider this your official warning: block me or unfriend me now if you don’t want to see construction updates, before-and-afters, budgets, lessons, wins, losses, and everything in between.

But honestly, this journey means even more to me because this year has been physically, emotionally, and spiritually challenging. There were moments when I questioned myself, felt exhausted, and wondered how I was going to keep moving forward. But God kept providing.

Every time I thought I was at my limit, somehow He made a way. Every closed door redirected me. Every setback taught me something. And every difficult season reminded me that what God has placed on my life is bigger than what I can see in the moment.

When God gives you a vision, opposition is inevitable but so is His provision.

So here I am. Still standing. Still learning. Still building. Still believing.

This is just the beginning.

Next stop: breaking ground.

I can’t wait to bring you along for the journey. ❤️🙏🏾

Huge shoutout and thank you to Rick and the @udaphilly. From classroom to the field. I’m extremely excited to announce that I am in the development space in the city of Philadelphia! A special thank you to @newt_theentrepreneur . Development has always been my dream and @newt_theentrepreneur personally has made it possible. My guy right here is one of the most intelligent, real, and passionate people I ever met. Glad to call him my friend. From classroom to the field. More to come…..

I spent some time today with the next generation of developers in the Urban Developers Association/Drexel NextGen Developers Program — and left excited about what they’re going to build in Philadelphia.

I support the Urban Developers Association (UDA) because its work reflects something I deeply believe: our neighborhoods should not have to choose between disinvestment and displacement.

The choices cannot be nothing changes OR development that no existing community member can afford, comes in, longtime Black and Brown residents get pushed out, and the people who stewarded our neighborhoods for generations don’t benefit.

There is another way: equitable development. Development where community is at the table. Where longtime residents benefit. Where we create opportunities for Black and Brown developers who understand our neighborhoods and want to build with them, not simply build in them.

Our Turn the Key project in Mantua is a perfect example. We are working with a cohort of developers from UDA to transform City-owned vacant land into 90 affordable homeownership opportunities. We took our time, engaged residents, made sure the community met the developers, and recently broke ground on the first homes — the largest Turn the Key development the City has broken ground on to date.

That’s not equitable development slowing us down. That’s equitable development delivering at scale.

I’m grateful to Rick Young and UDA for developing a pipeline of people who understand this vision — and congratulations in advance to this cohort, who graduates in the next couple weeks! I cannot wait to see what you build for our neighborhoods and our city!

This last 6 weeks has been LIFE CHANGING and eye opening to say the least . To be hired as a Part-Time Employee by Drexel University an amazing institution is one thing but to be helping others that look just like me understand the New Construction Development space is the real POWER 💥

When I was in college I thought to myself why isn’t there more curriculum based courses related to Real Estate that serves as a prerequisite for matriculation.

Now to say that not only teach the program but helped create it is truly a BLESSING. Thanks to Drexel University and @udaphilly for making this possible. See yall next semester for all the future enrollments.

And for my current students that may see this. Make sure you are READY for next week’s quiz.

👇🏾 If you’re raising, mentoring, coaching, teaching, or guiding boys, comment “GUIDANCE.”

And tell me this:

What is ONE skill or life lesson every boy should learn before becoming a man?

Share this with a parent, mentor, coach, teacher, or community leader who needs to be part of this conversation.

We keep telling boys to become better men…

But too many of them were never shown how.

A boy needs guidance.

A young man needs direction.

And a grown man still needs purpose, accountability, and people around him who want to see him win.

It doesn’t matter whether you’re a single mother, single father, part of a two-parent household, grandparent, guardian, coach, mentor, teacher, or community leader…

If you’re helping raise boys, this conversation involves you.

We cannot keep criticizing the next generation without giving them the skills, exposure, discipline, mentorship, and opportunities they need to build a different future.

That’s why I’m building Earn With Your Hands™. 🙌🏾

A place where people can learn practical skills, develop confidence, understand business, create income, and begin building something of their own.

I’m not interested in only discussing the problem.

I’m working to become part of the solution.

Because one skill can create options.

One mentor can change a mindset.

And one opportunity can change the direction of an entire life.

Let’s stop demanding better without helping teach them how.

Let’s Get It.
Let’s Go.
Let’s Grow. 🙌🏾🔥

👇🏾 Be honest...

What’s ONE life skill you wish someone had taught you when you were 16 years old?

Let’s help the next generation by sharing our answers in the comments.

Comment “BUILD” if you’d invest in this opportunity for yourself or your child.

We’re losing a generation...

Not because they’re incapable...

But because too many of them were never shown another way.

We keep telling people to “do better.”

But how many of us are actually teaching them HOW?

That’s the conversation we need to have.

Real change doesn’t happen through criticism alone.

It happens through guidance.

Through mentorship.

Through exposure.

Through practical skills.

That’s why I’m building Earn With Your Hands™.

Not to give people handouts...

But to help provide opportunities, teach real life skills, and create pathways to ownership, entrepreneurship, and generational wealth.

Because one skill can change a life.

One mentor can change a mindset.

One opportunity can change an entire family.

It’s time we stop talking about the problem...

And start becoming part of the solution.
