Happy International Women's Day from UFIT! To celebrate and honor the history of women's contributions and achievements in technology, UFIT will be spotlighting three of our incredible staff this month. To start our series, here is Ying Zhang!

Ying Zhang is the IT Manager for AI Support at UFIT Research Computing. She joined Research Computing (RC) in 2011 as an application specialist and research facilitator. Prior to that, she was a senior research programmer at Renaissance Computing Institute. Through her more than 20 years in high performance computing (HPC), she has been a strong advocate of women’s participation in HPC and technical computing. At RC, she worked with student organizations for women in ECE and CISE to engage them in RC’s outreach activities, such as the Gator Computing Program. In Spring 2020, with the strong support of RC Senior Director Dr. Erik Deumens, she established the UF Chapter of Women in High Performance Computing (WHPC), an international organization aiming to provide equality for women working in HPC. To leverage interest and engage the UF community, Ying and the committee members organized three WHPC&AI panel sessions with attendees from every UF college. Having prominent and highly accomplished UF faculty members serving as panelists, these events provide great platforms for panelists to share their unique experiences, insights, and advice for students and staff working in different research domains as women and for in-depth discussions on the challenges they face and how to succeed in their chosen career.
