Fix Tier 6!

“I will go to Albany with that as a key part of my agenda, continuing to build on the work that has been done over these last few years, but not stopping until we deliver.” - Zohran Mamdani, on reforming Tier 6

Fixing tier 6 is vital to the future of our profession. The system cannot attract and retain new educators if they’re unable to retire until the age of 63.

The have been major steps forward in reforming tier 6:

✅ Lowering the vesting period to 5 years (down from 10)
✅ Reducing the Final Average Salary calculations to the final 3-years (down from 5)

These are big steps in the right direction but we can’t stop there. We must:

💙 Lower the retirement age to 55
💙 Reduce the pension contributions

Having a mayor working alongside us as we lobby in Albany would be a powerful dynamic that we haven’t had to date on this issue.

Paraprofessionals deserve more money in their pockets. Full stop.

Intro 1261 (aka The Respect Check), would be a major step forward in closing the paraprofessional wage gap, caused by the flawed pattern bargaining process.

Zohran Mamdani has pledged to “swiftly” pass Intro 1261 should he be elected mayor because he understands that in order to attract and retain paraprofessionals they need to be paid a livable wage.

Increasing paraprofessional compensation is not only good for them, it’s good for children, and for workers all across the city.

If you’re feeling the sweat drip down your back, so are your itinerant colleagues x10000. They’re out there juggling between multiple sites, battling the sun, and still expected to stick to their schedules—regardless of the heat and the heavy loads they’re carrying on their backs. So show them some love offer a seat and a cup of water- thanks in advance 🤪#uft
