Proud to announce my commitment to the University of the Fraser Valley to continue both my education and baseball career. Huge thank you to my family, coaches, teammates, and everyone who’s been part of this journey. I would like to thank the Okanagan athletics, aswell as the Vernon Canadians for making me a better athlete and teammate. Looking forward to what’s ahead with the Cascades. 💚⚾️

In September one of our In-School Mentoring Coordinators reached out to Kyle Lotzgar, General Manager, and Riley Jepson Head Coach with the UFV Cascades Baseball team and asked if BBBS could partner with them to become mentors.

BBBSFV has a gap in male identifying mentors. We had nine UFV mentors step into the onboarding process and commit one hour a week throughout the school year to spend with a mentee.

The connections made were irreplaceable and the feedback from teachers/staff, parents/guardians and the mentees themselves was incredible.

We had mentors playing card games, running laps of the field, making crafts, creating puzzles and of course playing baseball with their mentees. Some of our mentees come across various barriers to extracurricular sports and having UFV athletes sharing their knowledge and abilities with our mentees was priceless.

The UFV mentors ended on a high note, inviting their mentees to attend their home game on May 3.

The mentees were invited into the watch tower to help with scoring, the dug out to cheer and the field to run the bases and meet all the players. The mentees had baseballs signed by the team creating memories that will not soon be forgotten.

UFV Cascades stepped up to model what leadership, teamwork and consistency can look like in everyday actions.

We hope to continue this relationship for years to come!
