🎡 Homecoming fun came to Legion Field Thursday night!
University Union hosted the UGA Homecoming Carnival on Thursday, Oct. 1, from 7 to 11 p.m. The event featured carnival rides, games, free food and more as part of a weeklong celebration of UGA tradition and school spirit.
Homecoming brings together generations of the University of Georgia community through events and traditions across campus.
This year’s festivities have included Bulldog Bash, the Lip Sync Battle, a movie at Sanford Stadium and the Homecoming Carnival. The celebration continues with the Homecoming Parade and NPHC Step Show before wrapping up Saturday with the Bulldogs’ football game against Vanderbilt, where the 2026 Homecoming King and Queen will be announced at halftime.

Competitive games drew some of the longest lines at the University of Georgia homecoming carnival Thursday with bragging rights and prizes at stake.

Students and friends faced off Thursday in three games: a balloon-popping race, skee-ball horse racing and basketball shooting.

"Everybody wants to compete with their friends or something and go, ‘Yeah, I'm better than you at this, let's go,’ or ‘Oh, I'm better than you at this,’ you know," sophomore Adem Melles said. "That feeling of being able to compete with each other in a nice public environment like this; it’s gonna attract people."

Melles competed against his friend, sophomore Harrison Turner, in Boom Blasters. The game puts two contestants against each other, racing to pump up a balloon enclosed by spikes. The player who pops their balloon first wins.

“It's a lot more, like, intense than you think at first,” Melles said. Melles beat Turner and another student one after the other before moving on to the next game.

“It's really like I just came out and did what I had to do, you know,” Melles said. “I wasn't trying to star in the show, but I just came out to perform.”
Turner, however, had questioned the game's fairness.

"I'm gonna say, it looked like my balloon was about to pop, but it did not,” Turner said. “And also, I had one handle instead of two. So there are many factors to my loss.”

The longest line was at the basketball shooting contest. First-year political science major Nicolas Savage beat his friend Dongwoo Park in a long showdown. Savage beat Park 3-1 with his friends and a line of people watching.

“People saw me scoring like prime Larry Bird, and they just thought anyone could do it,” Savage said.

Park, a first-year electrical engineering student, disputed Savage's account.

“No, he wasn't scoring anything, actually,” Park said. When asked if he was open to a rematch, Park quickly said yes.

Turner felt the same way.

“I think we might have to run it back,” Turner said. “Just make sure, like, everything's in order.”
