POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

Earlier this year, @ugothegood reached out to @michaelinioluwa and I with a series of questions she had collected from creatives at a @lens4good conference. Michael and I filmed a series of answers and then life got in the way. Today, I stumbled on the folder again, and decided it was time.

So this is it. We have eight episodes. Will publish one each week till the series ends. If you have follow up questions to each episode, please leave a comment below. We will both try to answer to the best of our abilities, or invite a creator we think is in the best position to do so! 💓🙂‍↕️

It’s potluck morning and the first step in an exciting new direction for our Random Thoughts! Today, we’re bringing our random thoughts to life, live at @sohrcollective studios.

Through the imaginative lens of @ode.and.co and the brilliance of @ugothegood, we made these cool zines for everyone in the room.

Can’t wait to share the historical evidence of how Amala was discovered by the Amalakites 😅

In May, I was selected for @ccalagos archival practice workshop, a two-day workshop facilitated by @amandamadumere, the workshop explored how artists can engage in archival practice and also respond to institutions or individual archives to produce works that further engage the archive.

During the workshop, we were given access to the Bisi Silva Archives (physical and Digital) and were asked to respond artistically.
My response was a 24-piece seriegraphy series, titled “Bisi: My Archive Shows Me”

What stood out for me was that an archive reflects the identity of its keeper. An archive is not an archaic form or something that solely dwells in the past; rather, it is alive and ongoing. I also learned that even as we maintain archives, the spaces we occupy, the work we do, and the places we go also preserve archives of us. This is what we call a “place of memory.” That’s why a particular spot in a home can carry more emotional weight than others because of the memories associated with it.

All these observations shape how I responded to the archive. I wanted to visually demonstrate how elements from Bisi’s archive, which caught my interest, could be used to create her image. And also to reinstall my ongoing research on signs

These are the documents I interact with to create the works:
1. The Catalog of Victor Ehikhamenor exhibition “Entrance and Exit " (2011)
2. Postcard featuring work from Kwesi Owus-Ankomah,
3. Catalog design from Nigerian Field Society
4. Exhibition Catalog of Chijioke Onuora, “Mark Making”
Amongst others.
5. I also picked her image from her archive.

The workshop ends with an exhibition “Medium As Time” curated by @amandamadumere

Last weekend, Children from Àwùjọ Ọla kids had the opportunity to participate in a creative collage and poetry workshop hosted by The Global Cento, facilitated by @salome_adetutu

It was a beautiful afternoon of creativity, storytelling, and self-expression. We’re grateful to @theglobalcento for the invitation and for creating a space where our children could explore, imagine, and create freely.

Thank you @ofem.ubi @ugothegood @chrisudoh_ @ccalagos

Here’s a little recap. 💛

We asked our friends what it is they remember first when they take their pens to write (poetry or text in any genre.) Their responses reminded us again how writing is a deeply personal experience that we choose to share with others.

Going home - A series

Inspired by the first picture here from @wolehammond, I have spent the last few weeks observing people making their way home.

These collection of visuals were captured between Lagos, Abuja, and Abidjan.

I kept the original sounds to keep it as real as it felt.

Some honorable mentions which didn’t make the cut was a bird I saw flying off, it dribbled me so I couldn’t capture it.

Which slide is your favorite?
