@chashama gallery at 1155 Avenue of the Americas was transformed into an immersive, colorful landscape for the opening of GRASSLANDS, a solo exhibition by Zambian painter Mwinga Sinjela @monkbreath, presented by @sheerworldwide and @theformula.collective. The vibrant debut features a striking collection of Afrofuturist works celebrating Black and Queer identities, inspired by Mwinga’s love of science fiction, comics, and animation. With sounds by @tmllls and a full house of artists, curators, and creatives, the opening was a dreamlike portal into a liberated future. GRASSLANDS is on view through April 13 and join us for a special closing event beginning 4pm next Sunday featuring a panel discussion with artists @osaze_akil & @flacowaters with a special presentation by art tech company @thetimbucktoo ✨

~2023 Outtakes and Reflection~
I’m still shocked today is the last day of the year tbh. I spent the last 9 months in therapy and it’s helped me unravel some long time stressors. I did not do much music this year because I needed to find my happiness. Creating felt more like a chore than a joy so I spent my time exercising, listening to podcasts, and watching chaotic documentaries because I love a good documentary 😂

I was reminded through my job how important it is to serve well and to show up well. Life taught me how essential rest is. How valuable conversations with family and loved ones are regardless of how challenging they may be. God showed up for me at my lowest and reminded me that the choice to keep living will eventually prove that my future truly does outweigh my past.

I’m moving into 2024 releasing control. Freeing myself to be even more present and being okay with all my ducks not always being in a row. I intend to allow myself to relish in moments of rest, love, and serenity as much as possible. It is my hope that my choice to be present will reflect God’s patience and thoughtfulness to others.

I hope you all enjoy the last day of 2023 and walk into 2024 with excitement and grace to yourself.
