You asked. We delivered. 💅

This is more than adding a few extra books to the collection, for us. It’s about taking your interests’ seriously and making sure that our Library offers all of you different ways to enjoy reading, even if it’s just reading for pleasure during your lunch break. And we’re not just geeking out here, there is actual research that backs this up, thankfully.

1. “Nearly twice as many young people who read comics/manga/graphic novels enjoyed reading compared to those who didn’t in their free time (58.6% vs 33.1%).” (The Reading Agency UK)
2. “Nearly three-quarters of library services (73%) reported that demand for comics, manga and graphic novels is higher or much higher than five years ago, while more than eight in ten (82%) expect demand to increase further over the next five years.” (Libraries Connected)
3. “Comics, manga and graphic novels are increasingly recognised as tools for reader development. Among respondents who completed the impact section, 97% agreed that they encourage reading for pleasure, 85% agreed they support literacy development, and all respondents agreed they help build reading confidence.” (Libraries Connected).

Manga, comics and graphic novels can offer visual storytelling, imaginative worlds and many opportunities for self-expression. It still counts as reading, it’s just another way to engage with stories and information. Even in academic libraries, this is still vital. Our collections should reflect the people who use them, not just what your course demands!

Thank you for including us as we work towards including you 💛

🤺What an incredible day celebrating women and girls in sport!

Today, we had the pleasure of attending the Women & Girls in Sport Festival, organised by Perth & Kinross Disability Sport!

Our fencing coaching team, alongside our wheelchair fencers, had a fantastic time introducing fencing to so many enthusiastic women and girls. It was amazing to see the curiosity, smiles and excitement as everyone got involved, tried something new and discovered what fencing has to offer! 🤺

We also caught up with Wiktoria, one of our passionate wheelchair fencers, who shared what today meant to her and why she’s so keen to encourage more women and girls with disabilities to get involved in sport.

As Wiktoria highlights, sport is about so much more than physical activity. It’s about building friendships, learning new skills, gaining confidence, being part of a community and, most importantly, having fun! 💜

We would absolutely love to see more people give fencing a go, whether you’re completely new to the sport or looking for a new challenge. There’s a place for you on the piste!

A huge thank you to Perth & Kinross Disability Sport for organising such a brilliant and inclusive event, and for inviting us to be part of it. We hope to see even more women and girls discovering the joy of sport in the future! 🙌

🌍🍴🧵 A brilliant day at UHI Perth for our Scottish Food and Textile Teachers’ Conference!

Our theme, Global Citizenship: Food, Fashion and Fairness, explored how Home Economics can help young people make informed, responsible and compassionate choices. 💚

Thank you to our speakers from SQA, Education Scotland, Social Flock and Solsgirth Farm, and everyone who led our food science, textiles, Nepalese food and World Trade Game workshops!

Thanks to everyone who joined us and Glenkilrie Larder for sponsoring our amazing lunch. 🙌

We hope to see you all soon! #FNTE #conference #foodeducation

🎓✨ UHI Perth Graduation Day! ✨🎓

Graduation is always one of our favourite days of the year, and it is such a joy to see our students cross the stage and celebrate all their hard work and achievements!💙

We had a fantastic number of students graduating this year, and it was wonderful to see so many familiar faces celebrating their success. We couldn’t be prouder of everything they have accomplished! 🥳

A special mention to our Sector Manager, Ype, who was graduating with his TQFE - congratulations! 👏

Huge congratulations to FNTE student (or should we say Home Economics teacher!!) Rachael Stewart, who won the Student Research of the Year award. What a fantastic achievement and thoroughly deserved!🏆

It was also lovely to see some of our Nepalese students bump into Anna from @bringbackthesmiletonepal charity, a special connection that made the day even more memorable💛.

A brilliant day celebrating success, catching up with our students and colleagues, and finishing off with some lovely food with our team. A day to remember! 🥂🎉
