dear wio,
you have no idea what you’ve done for me man. each year ive been a part of this amazing org, i’m blown away by the talent and dedication of the performers and group leaders. i still remember my freshman year, being absolutely gagged boots DOWN by hip hop’s set, which led me to the beautiful @laurjax1 and @fideliak13 the following year. these women have inspired me so much not only as dancers but as incredibly dedicated, hardworking, relentless yet joy-filled individuals. i remember my sophomore year when i was nervous to be the only south asian in latin america and yet @samkowalsky welcomed me with open arms and i began to be able to receive the love and joy of not only sharing the stage with @cielogherrera but to go on to call her a precious friend. and this year… ya girl’s last and final year, when the Lord said “wait” and called me to Himself, allowing me to trust that He would make a way for me to continue my passion for fashion and my love for the stage. and i abided and waited. and God is good. i’m so blessed to have been able to witness and be a part of culture in motion over the past three years but this year was incredibly special. thank you Jesus is all i can say. without you, none of this wouldve been possible. thank you for allowing me to be able to showcase my own culture, learn about others, celebrate your wonderful children in all of their skill and talent and for bringing me friends that i love so dearly through this. to have been able to share the stage and bust a move with my main dance partner @moejoe_004 was a dream and shoutout @lady.em__ and @bboysupajosh for giving us an appreciation for the culture and the skills to celebrate y’all well. miss licia finna miss y’all.

and shoutout to my precious, beautiful @ralaynadm for the best surprise a girl could ask for. to have you there to celebrate my last performance was the cherry on top. i love you so so much. and thank you to my family and friends that have loved me well through this experience and shown up faithfully in my support❤️❤️

Partners in Health Engage and Walk it Out from the University of Iowa are excited to announce our second run or walk 5K. All proceeds will go towards tuberculosis relief in Sierra Leone!

Gear up for the powwow with our programming series! Keep an eye on our account for more updates and more information on these events :) A list of events titled “Powwow Programming Series.” The first event is “March 29: LIttle Steps in the Circle. 11am and 1pm. Join dancers from the Meskwaki Nation at the Iowa Children’s Museum to learn about powwow dance. Bring your children to watch, ask questions, and enjoy.” The second is “April 3: Crafternoon: Native beading. 1pm and 3:30pm. Come to the Stanley Museum of Art to learn how to bead a lanyard from a Native Student!” The third is “April 11: Tabling at Walk It Out. 6:30pm. Visit our table at Walk It Out to learn more about the powwow. Get shirts and tickets early!” The fourth is “April 14. The Business of Fancydancing screening. 7pm. Watch this indigenous and queer classic film at FilmScene downtown. Visit our table before the show to get information about the powwow!” The last is “April 18: Powwow. 8am-8:30pm. After these events, you’ll feel so excited and prepared for the powwow. Come to the Fieldhouse and watch dancers, peruse vendor and community organization tables, listen to drummers, eat Native food, and enjoy!” The post is decorated with art deco stars.
