We embarked on a journey to the Lesotho Highlands Water Project, as UJ Civil Engineering Technology Department, where we visited:
-Lerotholi Polytechnic
-Mohale Dam
-Katse Dam
-Senqu Bridge
-Polihali Dam
-Afri-Ski Resort
-Moteng Pass
-Muela Dam
-Muela Hydropwer station

It’s safe to say this was no short trip, a lot was learnt, bonds were built and memories were made. It’s safe to say UJ and LHWP will never be the same again!

As part of Phase 1A of the Lesotho Highlands Water Project (LHWP), ‘Muela Hydropower Station showcases how water transferred through the project can also be used to generate electricity for Lesotho. 🇱🇸

The #OrangeArmy went behind the scenes to explore the engineering behind this dual-purpose infrastructure.

A big thank you to Mr MC Thamae, Chief Supervisor at ‘Muela Dam, for hosting our Civil Engineering Technology students and sharing his expertise.

Join me on a beautiful educational excursion to the second largest dam in Africa. The katase dam 🔥

Hosted by the LHDA, UJ civil toured the Katse dam which forms part of Phase 1A of the Lesotho Highlands Water Project, which is an international collaboration between The Kingdom of Lesotho 🇱🇸 and The Republic of South Africa 🇿🇦.

We had the chance to explore the impressive engineering, design and maintenance of the second largest dam in Africa. Memerories were made and I am eternally grateful to our sponsers and The Uj Civil tech forum for making this trip possible 🙏.

POV: Your “outdoor classroom” just turned into a winter wonderland at 3,200m.

@afriskimountainresort is one of only two ski resorts in Southern Africa. Sitting at a breathtaking 3,200m above sea level.

What makes the Polihali Dam such a “complex and unique” engineering feat? Watch as Construction Project Manager Craig explains why there is no substitute for being on-site at the LHWP Phase II construction zone.
