I remember back in 2017, a song suddenly popping up on my Spotify: “Off the Radar.” It made me curious, so I checked out the album of the same name. I was immediately triggered by the artist’s name. It definitely didn’t sound like where I expected her to come from.

Years later, during Covid, Noga Erez popped up on my Spotify again, and I quite literally became obsessed with “VIEWS.” I loved the Hebrew part and ended up listening to that song on repeat (just like “Tel Aviv” by Jasmin Moallem)

Long story short, that’s how my Noga Erez fandom started.

Around that time, she was beginning to break through internationally, and I remember being excited that finally, everything about an Israeli artist screamed international success. It must have been also the same time when Babka Films started documenting Noga and Ori and what was supposed to be their claim to that international stage.

Then the war started, and things got complicated. Shows were cancelled. Death threats landed in her DMs. A career that had been building toward something suddenly existed alongside a completely different reality.

But she kept going. Things probably would have turned out differently without the war, but she still made it, becoming the first Israeli artist to perform at Coachella, playing both weekends.

This documentary captures that intimate relationship between success and war, cancel culture and ambition incredibly well. It’s a portrait of a reality struggle of many more but exampled with Nogas Story.

Go watch it. Highly recommend.
