One of the best parts of Paris is the privilege of entering artists’ studios. I got invited by @art.explora to visit their residency, hidden within the gardens of Montmartre, to spend time behind the scenes and exchange ideas while the work was still taking shape. Congratulations to Thủy Tiền Nguyen on her Vietnamese VHS 📼 “Paris by Night” opening at @bao.contemporary, and many thanks to Ulrik López Medel, whose work moves between Caribbean sculptural ritual objects and performance, including works choreographed by Cuban chess champions.

Ulrik López Medel, Ni mudo ni vacío Some forms never stop carrying what has passed through them. “Ni mudo ni vacío”, a solo exhibition by Ulrik López Medel, invites an encounter with material gestures shaped by intuition, memory, and transformation: the embodied potential of matter emerges through the ghosts of use that persist in the forms around us. (Español en comentarios) After more than FIVE YEARS on the road, it's finally a wrap for Never Spoken Again! . A little note of appreciation for all the work involved the show on the road for so long. It is difficult to put all the efforts together in my mind: the countless hours sitting on breaks or after hours in my office back in 2018; the thousands of video calls, millions of emails, love letters to artists, trips around the US, sleepovers at crazy university campuses, brewing eucalyptus hydrosol in the sink of the hotel bathrooms, improvising photography conservation to save artworks from leaks in storage spaces, celebrating my birthday in the middle of delivering a lecture, making friends everywhere along the way. . So many people to thank for this fun ride, with special appreciation to the artists; to Becky, Renaud, Jenn and everyone at ICI whose work made mine a pleasure, and to all the installers, curators, programmers and staff at the museums we visited. Never Spoken Again closed for the last time, and now moves on to become a publishing effort. More details coming soon on my website and on the NSA instagram. . In the most unforeseen way, NSA propelled me onto my next project, and I can't wait to share whats to come! .

____ Form as an accumulation of temporality: in the works of Francisco Brennand, Bel Ysoh, and Ulrik López Medel, the material retains marks, layers, and traces of different processes. In Brennand’s works, fire acts as an irreversible agent: multiple firings, layers of glaze, and temperature variations inscribe marks of a process in which control is never absolute and matter remains in flux. In Bel Ysoh’s works, thick surfaces, drippings, and fading structures seem to condense layers of time, folding the transformation of materials into the work itself. Whereas López Medel’s practice, deeply rooted in archaeology and anthropology, approaches objects as artifacts that carry memory, bringing together different layers of material culture. On view at Claraboia through May 9, “O Drama da forma”, curated by Rita Vênus, brings these temporalities together in the exhibition space. Creditos (credits) Video @opoente

Some appreciation (in vertical format) for the fantastic experience last week in Minneapolis. After some hesitation about the prospect of travelling in the aftermath of Operation Metro Surge, the Weisman Museum went all in to bring me and artist Felipe Steinberg in for the public program that caps off the relentless tour of my exhibition, Never Spoken Again. . Our days in the city were brief but full of emotion, acknowledgement, and hospitality. The feedback to our program and the exhibition exceeded our expectations, and we received generosity from unexpected places. We visited memorials and acknowledged how emotions are still fresh in the air of a city seemingly full of proud and resilient communities. We sampled the excellent food offerings brought in by migrant communities. We visited a cohort of MFA students, brilliant and unapologetic, and we found a thriving scene. . Thank you to Katie Covey and her brilliant team (Joy, Ricki) for making this a remarkable experience. To Alejandra and the entire Weisman staff for making this possible; to Bianet Castellanos and Jane Blocker for contributing to a conversation that deserves many more chapters; and to the great Felipe Steinberg for coming all the way from Greece to share such a timely work that resonates with our current moment. . Looking forward to spending more time with the Twin Cities communities in the Future. . And thank you @onassis.stegi #onassisfoundation for supporting Felipe to be part of this program! . #contemporaryart #FelipeSteinberg #michaelrakowitz @curatorsintl #onassisair
