Introducing our 2nd annual Chicago makers ✨

@mendel.idas.art is self- and community-taught, and they dabble in linocut, watercolor, zines, and even a little fiber art. Themes include diasporism, anti-fascism, and community care.

@barbieboycrafts is a queer fiber artist and dancer based in Chicago.

@double_cradle is a pottery project designed to celebrate the sentimental; a creation of objects that we can't help but hold with both hands.

@h0ly_g0lem is a ritual-propaganda practice, summoning the magic of a clay monster enlivened by an alphabetical spell of truth to re-imagine the myths of the past and stitch vital queer visions into liberatory futures.

@Ultraviolet.giant is a jewish non binary artist living in chicago. Their art style is influence by Jewish folk art and culture. They also are a tattoo artist who makes Jewish designs with the goal of providing culturally relevant body art.

@frumanie grew up in a frum community immersed in the visual language of letters and midrashic tales of prophetesses and Rebbes, exploring themes of queerness, religion, and diasporic identity.

@ask.the.annie is a trained fashion designer with a passion for Jewish learning and teaching. For years she was told to combine those talents and make balbatish clothing for frum women, but instead she makes kosher talises for busty bodies.

@batsarahpress is a way to explore Jewish ritual and tradition by way of Hiddur Mitzvah (“beautification of the mitzvah”). Specializing in custom ketubahs, heirloom ceramics, and artisanal Judaica of all incarnations, each piece is rooted in the beauty of Jewish rituals and the richness of the diaspora experience.

@citrus.history a Jewish-Quaker choreographer and performer. World building, self taught artistic practice and multi-sensorial collaborative performance centers much of their artistic practice They are the founding director of the Jewish Museum of Chicago.

@samrose.solarpowered is a small distro based out of Chicago that focused on promoting first time zine publishers. Our zines cover a range of topics and forms including poetry, technology manifesto, and Torah commentary.

Thank you to everyone who shared my video and/or donated. I honestly could not remember everybody's name in the video, so I am tagging you in this post. Thank you all so much! The story I share today is not a singular experience. Lack of resources is something that is rampant in the disable community. Most of us work simply just to pay our bills. A lift, which is a necessity, seemIngly, sometimes feels like a luxury.

I had called every avenue to access a new or used lift at no cost. I'd ask doctors for prescriptions. I asked my caseworker. I decided to take a leap of Faith this morning, and I'm glad I did! Anyone who knows me knows I don't like asking for help. I lead a fairly great life. I've never gone hungry. I've never been without a roof over my head. Somehow, I find a way. Through the kindness of the people around me who love and believe in me. I find a way to continue to live independently.

I feel so underserving... But I am extremely grateful to have people in my corner. I know that is not the story for a lot of people in this world. It's important that we take care of each other. That we love each other. That we place faith in one another. Life is not always a disappointment. We just tend to remember the disappointing moments. The world did well for me today. And i'm hugging you all!!!

I tried to tag everybody... If you're not tagged, Please, tag this reel.
