Our Director of the Immigrant Student Center for Resources and Research, Angelo Cabrera, was honored with a NYC Citation from NYC Mayor, Zohran Mamdani in recognition of his years of service and advocacy for immigrant communities across New York City.

A special thank you to Detective Carlos Ramos from the NYPD Community Affairs Bureau – Immigration Affairs Unit for advocating for this meaningful recognition and for his continued commitment to uplifting our communities.

Angelo was recognized during the first Cinco de Mayo celebration at One Police Plaza, as well as during the inaugural gathering of “Creciendo Juntos” — a mentorship and networking initiative bringing together Mexican professionals in government, nonprofit, and corporate spaces to support and inspire the next generation of Mexican and Mexican-American leaders.

From immigrant student advocacy to community empowerment, this recognition reflects the collective work of our students, families, partners, and community leaders who continue building pathways of opportunity, representation, and hope.

Juntos seguimos creciendo. 🇲🇽✨

Yesterday was more than a graduation — it was a celebration of resilience, sacrifice, and the power of our immigrant community.

Our 2nd Annual Latinx–Immigrant Graduation Ceremony honored students who overcame barriers, migration trauma, and uncertainty to achieve their dreams. Sí Se Puede.

For many students, the ISC became a true Home Away from Home — a space where staff, faculty, and community members stood beside them as family. Yesterday, we celebrated not only degrees, but strength, resistance, and hope for future generations.

Thank you to our inspiring keynote speaker, Deputy Mayor Dr. Helen Arteaga Landaverde, for reminding our students that the sacrifices of immigrant families are worth it and that our communities belong in positions of leadership.

Special thanks to our student leaders, partners, faculty, staff, and organizations who made this celebration possible. ✨

To our graduates: your success represents generations of dreams and resilience. We are so proud of you.
