The world recently lost a stunning woman and the birth community lost a friend and champion.

The number of people who have shared with me how much @_hengou ‘s books have supported their journey through birth and postpartum is striking.

In every class, for years now there has been someone who held the floor while they espoused the value of reading The First Forty Days to their classmates. Every. Class.

It’s paradigm shifting.

Her work moves people, inspires them, and changes how many plan for and experience postpartum.

What a legacy.

The impact of Heng’s life will continue for years to come.

While we weren’t super close, our worlds intersected a lot and my adoration and respect for her personally and for her work are deep.

The loss of her within our community, both the global birth community and our tight-knit local one, is felt personally and profoundly.

Her memory will be a blessing.

And thank you @lbreggy for bringing Heng into my world. Your love for her is palpable and moving, now and always.

Remi Clement Liss Jammet born in water in the calm and coziness of our home on 5/13/2026 at 8lbs 5ozs at 3:52am. Following in his brother’s footsteps, he was also 12 days past his due date, but this birth was different and transformative.

It was my first birth without any induction practices - no castor oil and interventions to get the party started. For about 4 hours, contractions were consistently staying at around 8-10 minutes apart with gentle nudges, stretches, and movement from the team, encouraging baby to drop down and increase dilation. 3 more hours went by and things intensified as I transitioned. Active labor was in the full swing and I was roaring. We got into the tub and my water was still intact. The pressure and pain were excruciating. My midwife guided me to break my bag myself on the next contraction, I beared down and pop - relief. Then, before Remi came earthside Beach House - Space Song came on, the song I walked down the aisle to, and I started to bawl crying and kissed Nicolas. It was the oxytocin boost I needed to push him out.

8 hrs of labor, 1 hr of active labor, and 3 pushes later, our beautiful boy Remi arrived into Nicolas’ arms into a serene environment with no poking, prodding, or drugs, just euphoric baby bliss in the comfort of our home. We crawled into our bed and let the placenta and cord go fully white, as we enjoyed this golden time together. Then, we woke up the boys and they got to meet their new baby brother and Julien and Olivier cut his cord! They say the third baby is everyone’s baby and it couldn’t be more accurate.

Deepest gratitude for my husband @nicolasjammet and our dream homebirth team midwife @thevitalwoman, doula @umamother (who has been with us through all 3 births!), and backup OB @phabulouscare for believing in me. Thank you for holding me and creating a space for me to expand my physical and spiritual consciousness. Guiding me with your wisdom and taking me through the birth portal in a way where I always felt safe, seen, and empowered. I am forever changed.

This is the moment Goldie launched into my hands.
Another home birth for the Brook family.
@mamalachiropractor is an absolute hero.
After I watched her breathe Jacob into this world….. my entire perception of her shifted. I witnessed her step into a level of strength and power I had never seen before.
Scroll her IG. Read her birth stories. They’re legendary.
But here’s the thing nobody talks about…..
With our second, Benjamin….. Kristyn was squatting on a birth stool. I was on my belly, elbows to the ground, hands positioned just below her. No contact. Just waiting.
Not exactly an optimal catching position.
Benji was coming out slow….His hand was tucked behind his head….. so Kristyn had to navigate some serious pain. Slowly he was arriving….. And then….. boom.….. I got his head and upper body….. but his butt landed in the bowl. Clang!!!
Not a fumble. But definitely not a clean catch.
In football? No reception credited.
I carried that for two years.
So for Goldie….. I visualized it. Clean hands. Clean catch. Full presence.
After moving from the birth tub to the shower and then onto the bed….. Kristyn gathered every ounce of herself….. and launched Goldie out of her body.
Full slither. One motion. Like a ski jumper getting air.
I had to use actual quick reflexes to catch her.
I was stoked.
Goldie’s birth was genuinely one of the best experiences of my life. I was locked in….. 100% present through every contraction….. doing my support work as taught by the incredible Patti Quintero.
So dads….. train your reflexes.
Because those babies come out fast….. and they are a little slippery.
