Life can be so subtle that sometimes you barely notice walking through the doors you once wished would open.

That’s how @sarahhdiluzio describes what it’s been like to chase a career in soccer after graduating college. From doing marketing for Classic Football Shirts to working with numerous teams and brands on social media, Sarah’s story is one shaped by perseverance and making every opportunity count over the past two years.

If you’ve been around the NYC soccer community, chances are you’ve also run into Sarah at local leagues, pickup, or community events, somehow fitting as much football as possible into her life. So, after a very busy summer, we got to spend a day with Sarah to learn more about her journey and hear her advice for others looking to work in the beautiful game.

Working in TV and soccer has been a dream come true for @claudiampagan.

It’s a job that has taken her all over the country, covering every aspect of the beautiful game across studios, stadiums, and unexpected places beyond the pitch. But the road to get to her dream job in soccer was never straightforward, and it’s a path that she’s had to largely carve out herself.

We had the chance to visit this incredible grassroots pickup group a few weeks ago and learn more about what it means to the soccer community in Baltimore.

Ever since its inception in 2022, AN Pickups has been a space where people of all ages and experience can come together to play in a fun, unstructured environment, giving players the freedom that often characterizes street football everywhere around the globe.

Over time, this pickup community has grown to over 100 players who regularly attend the sessions, showing the surging impact that grassroots football is having all across the United States.

It was an honor to drop in and witness what this incredible group has built over the past few years, and these are some of our favorite photos and videos from the day!

The best place for pickup in NY?

From seeing his parents find community through Sunday leagues in Florida, @lguti_ has always understood the importance of local pickup as a way to build lasting friendships. But after moving to New York, Luis wasn’t sure how soccer could still fit in his life.

That is until he found @boweryfc. Through this tight-knit group of players, creatives, and inspiring stewards of the game, Luis was able to adapt to his new home and fall in love with the sport once more.
