@gotechnica 2026 is underway! Participants are gathering at the College Park Marriott and online to build projects, learn new skills and connect with mentors. For mentor and @univofmaryland computer science senior Claire Chen, the hackathon’s community helped shape her decision to study computing. “I found a safe community and space within the tech field, which is why I decided to pursue computer science at UMD,” Chen said of her first Technica experience in high school. Celebrating underrepresented genders in tech, the event offers beginner, general, research and startup tracks, technical workshops and opportunities to connect with recruiters.

“How can we help families capture both the financial and emotional value of the things their loved ones leave behind?” For #ScienceTerp Jacqueline Deprey (B.S. ’20 @umdcs, B.S. ’20 @umdsmithschool), that challenge inspired Perpetua, a digital toolkit designed to simplify estate settlement. Jacqueline is grateful for the invaluable learning experiences through @questumd, @gemstoneprogram, @umdcatalyst and more that helped make her problem-solving platform a reality. “To be able to help others is really what drives me, and I'm so fortunate for the foundation that Maryland gave me that helps me do that in such a tangible way,” Jacqueline said. “Whether it was the technical skills needed to code products like this or the business insights needed to bring Perpetua to market, knowing I could ease someone's burden, even just a little bit, in their time of grief means the world.” #Estate #ComputerScience #Entrepreneur #ExperientialLearning A woman smiles at an audience member. They are standing in front of a screen that has the Perpetua logo and two headshots.
