Some moments remind you why you chose this path in the first place.

Last week was one of those moments.

It was an honor to celebrate and give the Closing Remarks for the White Coat Ceremony with the next generation of dentists and healthcare professionals at the University of Michigan. Watching our students receive their coats was a reminder that this profession is about so much more than knowledge, technique, or clinical skills.

That white coat represents something much bigger: trust.

One day, a patient will place in your hands their health, their fears, their stories, and their confidence. Never take that privilege for granted.

As I told our students last week, excellence is built not only through preparation and knowledge, but through compassion, humility, integrity, and the willingness to advocate for those who trust us.

And maybe most importantly, don’t let tomorrow steal today. Take a moment to appreciate where you are, because someday you’ll look back and realize that these ordinary days were some of the most extraordinary ones.

To the Class of 2030 and the ITDP Class of 2028: I am incredibly proud of you and honored to be part of your journey.

To your families, faculty, staff, and everyone who helped you get here, this moment belongs to you, too.

What a privilege it is to be part of Michigan. 💙

For today, goodbye.
For tomorrow, good luck.

Some very good projects coming on the horizon!
This week we had the pleasure of receiving Dr Santos, former Dean of the University of São Paulo, for a visit at the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Department at the University of Michigan. We will start to develop an international collaboration program between our surgical team and their hospital of craniofacial anomalies, kindly referred as “Centrinho”. Dr Santos also met with Dean Nor, and plans to increase the research cooperation between the two Universities are already underway!!
Very good opportunities and future projects to come!

Nothing, absolutely nothing, will ever replace a well-trained surgical hand.

Freehand implant placement allows the surgeon to feel the bone, identify the best condition for each implant, always respecting the prosthetic envelope, offering the patient greater versatility, predictability, and treatment options.

Saying a surgeon needs a guide to place an implant is like saying a dentist needs a guide to prepare a tooth for a MOD restoration, or that a driver needs an autonomous vehicle to park.

I still believe our generation is capable of turning a key, flipping a light switch, and placing an implant.
