A STAGE. A MOVEMENT. AZAADI.

From an empty space to the first South Asian stage @kendalcalling

A lot of grit, graft, late nights, problem-solving, building, lifting, fixing, adapting and making it happen went into bringing @azaadistage to life.

But this was never just about building a stage.

It was about creating space for South Asian creatives, artists, musicians, designers, producers and the diaspora to take up space at one of the UK’s biggest festivals.

What @bobbyfricton and @goingsouthfestival have created through Azaadi is something really special! A platform where South Asian culture, music and creativity can exist loudly, proudly and unapologetically within the wider UK festival landscape.

For the South Asian diaspora, these spaces matter.

They’re about seeing yourself represented. Hearing sounds that feel like home. Discovering artists from your own community. And, perhaps most importantly, creating opportunities for the next generation of British Asian creatives to say:

I CAN DO THIS TOO!

Huge thank you to Tor for the opportunity and for trusting me to bring the decor and visual world of Azaadi to life.

Obvs this wasn’t a one woman band, I had such a great set up team including Willy who helped me bring this stage to life with his handyman skills along with Zayd and Rosh. the whole thing come alive with the incredible lighting and tech team lead by @somin.somatic

And then there were the artists… 🔥
BADASS sets. Phenomenal talent. Serious energy.

Watching the stage come alive, seeing people dance, connect and celebrate South Asian music and culture in the middle of Kendal Calling was something I won’t forget.

This is only the beginning.

Next year: bigger. Better. Wilder.

After all the planning, the lineup for Saturday’s Social Thirties 1st Birthday Party is officially here. 💃✨ What started as one brunch for women who didn’t want to do life alone has turned into something far bigger than I ever imagined, and this party is really a celebration of every single woman who has been part of that journey. We’ve got the incredible Nino Violin, Teddy Jiyane and Ummi joining me on the decks to bring the energy all night, alongside a whole group of amazing local businesses helping bring the night to life - from photographers and jewellery to cupcakes, décor and a photobooth. It’s honestly blown me away how many people wanted to be part of this celebration. Saturday isn’t just a party, it’s a moment for this community… and I cannot wait to see you all on the dancefloor celebrating one year of The Social Thirties together. 🥂💗

My remix of Semtek's Northern Lights is out now in all the usual spots.

Its such an honour to be included in this package alongside some bonafide legends like Mr G, Ikonika, Wes Baggaley, Jas Shaw and Ummi.

Originally I was going to do something dancefloor focused but then I heard the other versions..lol.

I mean, I ain't dumb enough to go toe to toe with Mr G or Wes or Ikonika! on a club track, so thought I'd better stay in my own lane and flip it in to something totally different.

What came out was a dubby, stripped back, acid tinged, halftime jam for the space cadet crew.

I'm super happy with how it developed, I hope you like it too.

Out to big dog Sam Binga for the mix assistance on this and out to Benji for always thinking of me.
