NEW WORK ✒️

The latest research from Dr. Francisco Gago-Jover and his team, presented at the Colloque L’édition Comme Données | Editing as Data (Université of Montréal), proposes a methodological model that integrates editing, text and data through the design of AI-driven workflows built with Google Gemini Skills, applied to General Estoria.

The workflow unfolds in three phases:
(1) Extraction: AI-assisted paleographic transcription to accelerate the creation of training data for HTR models in Transkribus
(2) Normalization: Systematic normalization and basic XML encoding, transforming the transcription into a structured digital object
(3) Translation into Modern French: Semi-literal philological translation ensuring strict architectural parallelism, which preserves the medieval theological and ideological frameworks

By standardizing instructions across Google Gemini Skills, multiple team members can process texts simultaneously while maintaining absolute methodological consistency, redefining the editorial process as a collaborative space for data production and structuring in the Digital Humanities.

A project where AI does not replace the human scholar, but empowers their work.

What’s your opinion on AI implementation in research? Let’s know in the comments below👇

Architecture is not only about designing homes. It is also about sharing the tools and knowledge that allow people to build their own future.

For Coop Kaza, our role goes beyond supporting the architectural project. It is also about creating opportunities for people to come together, learn from one another, and exchange practical skills and knowledge.

As part of the Kaza Mwendo Low-Cost Housing Project, our cooperative funded a hands-on learning activity focused on the self-construction techniques of the Kambi Moto method.

These homes are designed to be built by the community itself. Learning how to make the molds and produce each concrete component is an essential step toward bringing the project to life.

With the support of Slum Dwellers International (SDI), members of the Kaza Mwendo Low-Cost Housing Cooperative, architecture students from the Université de Montréal and from the Jomo Kenyatta University had the opportunity to learn together how to produce concrete ladis using the Kambi Moto construction method. This method was developed by engineers Ms. Susan Neitore and Ms. Susan Wanjiru, both from an informal settlement in Nairobi, as part of a community-led informal settlement upgrading initiative.

This construction technique relies on components that can be produced and transported by hand, without the need for heavy machinery. It also allows both women and men to participate in the construction process, making building more accessible to everyone.

Our long-term goal is to enable the community to gain the knowledge and confidence needed to independently build their own autonomous and incremental homes on the land purchased by the community.

🇨🇦🇬🇷 FROM MONTRÉAL TO ANCIENT GREECE! 🏛️

What if your summer classroom was a 2,600-year-old Greek city? 🤯

In the summer of 2025, approximately 60 Quebec students took part in archaeological fieldwork at Argilos, an ancient Greek settlement in northern Greece!

Led by Université de Montréal professor Jacques Perreault, the excavations are helping researchers piece together everyday life in ancient Greece, from streets and homes to shops and artifacts.

🔎 Here’s the fascinating part: Canadian and Greek archaeologists have been working together at Argilos since 1992!

More than 2,600 years of history, and there’s still so much left to discover.

🇨🇦🇬🇷 A beautiful example of Canada and Greece working together to uncover and preserve our shared human heritage.

💙 Would you spend a summer uncovering ancient Greek history?
